I dont know how I'd live without Gregg Mashall but I may have to learn....word around the block is a few teams have contacted him about their current Head Coaching vacancies.....we'll see...I've always said with the amount of contacts he has out in the mid west I'm shocked he hasnt gotten an offer but maybe this is the time.....we'll see

I've seen you mention a couple of times about Marshall's contacts in the midwest, who are you referring to? He's only worked on the East Coast and most of the coaches he's worked with are still in this area...Not to say that he doesn't know a few people out that way, but unless there's someone I don't know about, I don't see where that gets him an 'in' in that part of the country over anyone else...

I'm not surprised that he's getting contacted...it'll be interesting to see if he ends up interviewing anywhere..

If that shot hadn't fallen at the end of the Tennessee game, I'm guessing he might be interviewing some places.

I haven't heard anything out my direction in connection with some of the openings. K-State is going to be an interesting situation for somebody.

i see marshall as a real loyalist, and i feel he has unfinished business at winthrop, like advancing to the sweet 16. i think he will stay until he gets that done or a great job opens up.

He's not going anywhere unless one of the big boys has called him. And that's not too likely since he still hasn't gotten over that tournament hump. He'll be a thorn in our side for a few more years.

From what I know Marshall has been contacted about the KState job, although I'm not sure about an interview

Eddie Fogler is acting as a consultant to the K-State AD so that may be how GM's name is coming up.

Well--that will make it more satisfying if Marshall leaves when we kick WU's butt all over the place next year.

Considering the things I've been hearing about that program, Huggins should fit in nicely in Manhattan.

He's a great fit. Kansas is flat and wide open. Less obstacles when driving.

Actually the Little Apple is rather hilly. I've been there a number of times for football. But your point is well taken.

As a Cincy native and onetime fan of the Bearcat program I admit his removal was L O N G overdue.

I think a lot of Liberty Fans would like to see Greg leave the Big South. I have meet Marshall several times and have gotten to know him a little. He grew up in Rock Hill and has invested a great deal into Winthrop Eagles Basketball. If Marshall leaves it would be because it is a sweet deal and a program that has a chance at the final four in the future. Otherwise I don't see Greg going anywhere. Rock Hill and Upstate South Carolina is home for him and where a lot of his friends and Relatives live. If you know anything about that part of the South, people don't move from friends and Family they stay for the long haul.

If it is a big time program from out west and they make a sweet deal anything is possible. But I think it is a stronger chance of Greg getting a job in the SEC or ACC before he goes out west.
If he hangs around at Winthrop for a few more years look for Greg to one day end up at South Carolina. It is only a little over a 1 hour drive to Columbia from Rock Hill. Just my take on it.

Go Eagles!

WU has given premission to CofC to speak with Marshall. There's no way he goes. It's a lateral move and it would be dumb. He'd have to spend years building up what he's already got. However, that could be his only ticket to a big conference. Using CofC as a stepping stone because it's a little more respected as a Mid-Major. Well, it has been in the past anwyay.

Big Smooth? What is going on here? Can you please mail me the stuff that your on. Winthrop is good, but Marshall's not going to the Sweet 16 - EVER. Tell him he need to go to the big & Tall Store today - I saw a 8 Button Suit he would like.

The Team has done well, they played well against Tenn - Yes - What was their seed? And wasn't Tenn the worst 2 seed in the Last 25 Years? Liberty is going to bring them back to reality next year - if he is smart - he would leave now. I hear Savannah State was looking for a coach.

Proto,

I'd be more worried about getting out of the 300's in RPI rather than knocking us off as the next goal. Sorry, couldn't resist.

You don't think the sweet 16 is a goal? They were the bounce of a ball from 32, and Wichita State, a very winnable game.

And apparently katz thinks they are in the top 30. I'm not sure about that one.

what are you smoking proto? college basketball is full of parity, and if george mason can get to the sweet 16, so can winthrop at the rate their program continues to improve. i would love to be in winthrop's shoes right now.

Don't you mean GMU got to the Final Four? Lets not forget they also compete in the far superior CAA.

But that aside...I definitely think Winthrop will make a run IF their dominance of the Big South continues...its only a matter of time.

i love how people how to correct. if you read what i said, i used mason as an example of a mid-major who got to the sweet 16. i think we all know they went to the final four. and winthrop could very well compete in the CAA, right near the top, if not win it.

Have to agree with you guys on this one. Winthrop was very close to getting to the Sweet 16 and I think it could happen. Certainly not beyond the realm of possibility. There is a fine line between winning and losing and Winthrop happened to be on the bad side vs Tennessee this year. Look at the Dallas Mavs. They blew a 20 point lead and nearly lost in OT to the Spurs 2 rounds ago. Look at the Heat. If they don't come back from 13 in the last 6 minutes of game 3, they may have been swept! As far as Marshall taking CofC, I don't think it would be a good move IMHO. He has a good program now and a great salary. Unless they throw 3-500 K at him, he should stay. He can get where he wants at Winthrop just as easy as Cof C. If they beat Tennessee, we would not even be having this conversation because he would have gotten a job just like every mid major coach that upsets a big team has in the past (assuming they wanted to leave) from Stan Heat at Kent St. to virtually every coach at Tulsa over the past 20 years (Tubby Smith, Kelvin Sampson etc.). I know we like to give Winthrop flack Proto but I have to side with the other guys on this one.

It's all about seeding for them. If they get a 13 or lower they can win that first game. The comittee doesn't seem to respect them though. I do think there's a big difference between the round of 32 (which comes after the round of 64 everybody) and the sweet 16.

You are right about the differences LUconn but you must remember that if you beat a 2 or a 3 then you are going to face a 10 seed or a 7. !0 seeds are usually the MAC schools or someone of that ilk. Those are very winable games. That is why getting past that 1st round, you can start to see the light to the next weekend which is the sweet 16.
