Those are of course the 5 frontier novels written by James Fenimore Cooper in the 1820s-1840s:

The Deerslayer
The Last of the Mohicans
The Pathfinder
The Pioneers
The Prairie

All 5 novels star Natty Bumppo as the great American hero of the frontier (similar to Daniel Boone), and 4 of the novels star his Indian sidekick, Chingachgook. Also, Cooperstown, NY was named after William Cooper, the son of JFC, who set some of his novels there, including The Deerslayer.

I could go on and on about this topic, but if I said much more, I'd have to charge you tuition. :P

Ah, indeed 8) . Although, upon hearing the question, my college degree proved its value as I immediately knew the answer as a result of a certain former LU prof of mine whose favorite books were in fact these same Leatherstocking Tales (info for which I duly paid my tuition 8) which is also how I learned of said Cooperstown reference) and perhaps a bit of cider (info for which my FlameFans time has afforded me 8) )

Bumppo, who has aliases of Hawkeye, Pathfinder, Leather Stocking & The Trapper throughout the series, has a __________ (weapon) named ________________ ? (which must anger the PETA folks.)

Wow, it must be summer on FlameFans, I'm throwing out stuff I actually learned while a Flame; is it time for football yet?

Come on, Pete, throw me some more Cooper questions. If Fumble is lurking, he might learn something useful as he suits up for Quiz Bowl next year. Study

Here are 2 Cooper questions of medium difficulty: what was the name of Natty Bumppo's dog & what was the dog's most striking physical feature (in old age)?

Medic, Hector is correct, but you are batting .500 since the answer to the second question is that Hector is a "toothless hound."

Next question--in what territory are both Natty & Hector buried?

I didn't remember that at all. Is that mentioned in Mohicans? That's the only one we read in High School because we could watch the movie after we were done. Also, I think medic googled it.

Natty's dog Hector is in The Prairie, not Mohicans, which honestly is my least favorite Cooper novel (& movie).
