Ryan Werner, a three-time All-American decathlete for Liberty University in the 1990s, has found a new outlet for his competitive urges. Now a fireman in Myrtle Beach, S.C., Werner is the reigning state champion in a grueling competition called the Firefighters’ Challenge.
Former Scarborough High track star and Liberty University All-American Ryan Werner hasn't strayed far from his roots or from what he likes to do.
Werner grew up on the ocean lobstering with his father and brother. Werner now lives in Myrtle Beach, S.C., and for a hobby, runs a charter fishing boat business.
Werner was a volunteer for the Scarborough Fire Department as a youth. These days, Werner, 34, is a full-time fireman in Myrtle Beach.
