Here's something for you. Being a Radio Production major from 1983, I know that things have changed for the better...but I'm curious to know what your favorite concert would be that was ever held at Liberty. Hmmm....there was the Southern Gospel group the Florida Boys during the late 70s-early 80s....and they were ok if you like that style...however my all time fave would be Vernard Johnson. That man was / is an amazing sax player. It almost sounds like he can make that sax talk...and he also has the utmost respect from the Jazz / R&B world for having great chops. I would have loved to have seen Danial Amos or the 77s at Liberty in the early 80s...but I was lucky that I didn't have my album collection confiscated back then.

There were a ton of terrific moments back when I was in school primarily with musicians in Chapel (believe it or not).

It may sound odd, but one of my favorite concerts on campus was Wayne Watson. That man had a passion for Christ that couldn't be missed in concert. Most of the concerts were rather forgettable (i.e. David Meece, The Imperials, Harvest) as the best concerts were off campus based on the rather stringent music guidelines of the time. But I remember a really good Russ Taff show (I believe from the Medals tour).

DCtalk back in the late 90's. TobyMac climbed to the top of the vines on the lights and did some of his raps from up there. It was the best time in my life.

I think I was at that Wayne Watson concert Sly. I played "New Lives For Old" til I wore the cassette out. Still get goose bumps thinking about the lines:

"That old crazy man? He passed away last Spring."

"I guess I'll take his place then; 'cause I'm sellin the same thing!"

Keaggy played Chapel as did Phil Driscoll and a slew of world-renowned clasical & jazz musicians. Those were some of the folks I was referring to in my prior post.

You're right. The Hendrix - Keaggy thing never happened...but the fact that an urban legend like that has continued to this day is testament to Keaggy's chops. Do a youtube search for Glass Harp and you can find a 20 something Keaggy and the rest of GH playing for a PBS show. True greatness. All guitar players know who Keaggys rep, but I've always wondered on the what if scenarios. You know... what if Keaggy had done what Bono, Edge and Larry did in U2? That it was ok to play in a rock n roll band period. To quote Martin Luther, "Why should the Devil have all the good tunes?" Just thinking. I myself...prefer the music by Christians in the general marketplace.

My favorite would probably be Kirk Franklin and Toby Mac at the end of my freshman year. They pretty much blew the roof off the Vines Center that night (it was also my first time seeing TobyMac solo)

being a sophomore, i've only been to a few concerts so far. my favorite so far was the last tobymac concert. me and bryson were standing at the front within spitting distance of the stage. it was pretty awsome

We went through the same thing at WLBU when I was there. We could play Joni Erickson covering Larry Norman tunes...but we couldn't play the same tunes done by Larry Norman. I was in line for lunch one day and I heard Joni 's cover of "I am a Servant", and I started talking to some of my buddies in line saying that it's too bad we can't play the actual artist who wrote the song. A preacherboy overheard me (that's what I called 'em) and said, "Why then we'd be liberal". My reply to him was, "No...then we'd be good".

Hey I remember a parent's weekend at WLBU (around 1988) when we got shut down for 3 days because a parent complained because someone played Amy Grant's "Secular" song - "love will find a way"! I also got censored for the rest of the semester on the Music Video Show 'New Music" when I played a Randy Stonehill video For the song "Defender". The complaint from pastor JM was that he saw someone spinning and gyrating with a guitar on the DeMoss TVs. The funny thing is that I did the lighting for that video with LBN who shot it in the basement of the old OTGH building. Thing have changed!

He married Jennifer Pittman in July 2000, four months after Grant's wedding to Vince Gill.

On September 26, 2006, Nashville Metro Police reported that Chapman had been arrested on charges of drunk driving and drug possession after he was pulled over for speeding. His blood alcohol content registered nearly twice the legal limit, and a small amount of marijuana and a marijuana pipe were allegedly found in his pocket.[1]

He plead guilty to drunken driving on March 1, 2007, and has had his driver's license suspended, and he will attend an alcohol safety class. [2]. Gary and his second wife Jen have also legally separated.
