The gathering place for LU alumni to wax nostalgic about their glory days and tell current students how easy they have it. Old hags & bright-eyed and bushytailed recent grads both welcome.

Actually, Rocco has downgraded the schedule (Rutgers is gone) in an attempt to rack up some early wins and rebuild team confidence. But your point is well taken- and I know H'BURG is waving a flag and cheering somewhere as he reads this!

Really looking forward to the Rocco tenure! GO FLAMES!

Let's try not to compare 10 years ago with today on how LU handles certain situations...but I'm with you FSN, Coach Sam would say some of the funnest things, I'll never forget when I was on the sidelines and he told the back judge something (smart comment) and he looked at him and said laughing, that's the funniest thing I've ever heard, that's going in my book....he was full of one liners

I was the Chief Videographer for the fabled "The Morgan Hout Show", travelled with the team taping game footage that we used for the show. We would always tape the show on Sunday nights. Coach Hout couldn't have been kinder and more patient with a bunch of rookie production students. That show was hosted by a young Mike Tilley....wonder where he is?

In the '88 season, Coach Hout and the football team were only 5 points away from going undefeated, which included being two TD's ahead of 1-AA power Eastern Illinois(at the time)after 3 qtrs. at their place.[

Mike Tilley is in Georgia I believe. The Liberty channel still uses some of his voice overs from the 80's. He has also tried to get with Kyle Kallander and the Big South and he has had about the same success as I have. He is a good guy. I have not talked with him in a while but he keeps up with our producer/director of Flames Television Network, Bruce Carey.

Hey, Scar...

Do they still show my award-winning "Liberty....Where Champions are Forged" basketball commercial down there? That spot is almost 20 years old!!!!! Can't remember the guy I was dunking on for 8 hours that day. What's his name?

Produced by the famed TV host of "Act It Out", Alphoso Wesson!!!!

Big -e- I forgot about that commercial! I knew your tag line sounded familiar. I remember the other one where Mike Tait (DC Talk of course) was on the track and he dusts of James Wilson or some "real" athlete and then he is asked where he learned to run like that and he says with a dramatic pause....LIBERTY. Come to think of it didn't you do the same line in your commercial? I think I may have it on a TV version of one of our games I have in my archives. If not when you come down here we can take a trip over to the studio and see what we can find. Those commercials were histerical!

I can't picture who you were dunking on in that commercial. Was it Richie Lambert?

We need to start a thread on ACT It Out. Alphonso was a funny dude. Yep that was Richie Lambert -e-. He is still coaching around here and if you think I look like a linebacker you should see our boy Richie . He coaches at Glass as an assistant. Where did I learn to eat like this?....LIBERTY!!!!!

So the restrictor plates made the Daytona 500 rather boring today. So I decided to take the next step in my personal Wikipedia project by working my way back through LU football coaches. With Rocco, Karcher and Coach Sam already done I built a page for Harrisburg Flame's favorite coach:

Morgan Hout Wikipedia Page

If any of you get inspired and want to add to it I'd be pleased.

great start.

I can't think of anything to add- maybe a link to the profile of a former NBC sports guy from Houston?

He [Hout] coached a number of players who went on to NFL including Fred Banks, Kelvin Edwards and Wayne Haddix.
Sly, Morgan Hout also coached Eric Green for 2 or 3 years. I think Coach Sam only had Eric Green for his senior season.

Nothing wrong with that, CJ. I know how you TTU alumni look out for each other.

BTW if anyone has some of the old football media guides that have some biographical info on Coach Hout I'd love for you to either add it to the entry or send me the info to do so.

I worked for coach Hout for 1 season on the Morgan Hout Football show. He was a really nice guy. After he got canned he had the team and all of us involved ovwer to his house for a farewell party.
You can't compare the current state of the program with it then. I am a huge Rocco fan to guide us through this phase of 1AA (I'm not calling it the letters) football growth. But you can't compare te 80s with now. I compare it to the growth Coach Meyer made moving from NIAA to D1 in hoops. It was a tough run, but he brought the program out shining in the end. Morgan did the same thing on a smaller scale. He brought us from playing junk opponets and losing, to playing good teams and losing, to 1 year of playing good teams and winning. We'll never know what would have happened if he had been left alone and allowed to finish the job. He sure did recruit a ton of really good talent that NO ONE thought LU could get at the time.

Coach Sam - my coach!! Perhaps the funniest man I ever met in my life. Tons of character & always willing to provide a quote.

Liberty had (I hope it's past-tense) a bad rep for unceremoniously firing good coaches to get "name" coaches. It happened to Hout. It happened to Meyer. And Jeff Mincey should have succeeded Al Worthington as baseball coach. Had these guys been allowed to continue the programs they were building LU athletics might by now have attained Jerry's dream.

I'm surprised they haven't fired the woman's b-ball coach. After all, he's a winner.
