They arrived in Dodge Darts and Chevy Novas. They jammed the Dan Ryan Expressway and filled the side streets near Comiskey Park. They had disco records in their hands and half-pints hidden in their pockets.

They were the Insane Coho Lips, and they were headed to Disco Demolition Night. It was July 12, 1979.

Believe it or not, our equipment man, Mike Morris, used to work for the White Sox and was there for the infamous Disco Demolition Night. It's a great story to hear him tell it.

Perhaps the best Veeck promotion of all time was when he sent Eddie Gaedel to the plate.

Just 3 feet 7 inches (109 cm) tall and weighing 65 pounds (29.5 kg), Gaedel gained immortality in the second game of a doubleheader on Sunday, August 19, 1951. He was secretly signed by the St. Louis Browns and put in uniform (complete with number "1/8" on the back) as a publicity stunt by maverick Browns owner and showman Bill Veeck...Gaedel's strike zone measured just an inch and a half.

Eddie Gaedel was the 3'7' midget who played in only one game against the St. Louis Browns and the Detroit Tigers. In the second inning of a double-header, St. Louis manager, Zach Taylor, sent 3'7', 65-pound Eddie Gaedel up to bat. Gaedel stood in a crouch up at the plate, giving pitcher Bob Cain a strike zone of about one and a half inches. Gaedel was walked on four straight pitches.
