I'm stealing this from the Coastal board, but it provides a nice quick look at our program over the years. '97 was our best season in terms of wins and losses. That was my freshman year, and I can honestly say people still weren't as into football that season as they are right now. It's a good day to be a Flame.

I knew we used to be bad, I didn't realize we used to be absolutely horrible.

'98-'05 was by far our worst stretch. Blech.

'03 and '04 weren't TOO bad, we were at least .500 those years...the other ones though, especially '05 :vomit

Our better years were 1988 - 1992. Morgan Hout's recruits and Sam R coached them for 3 more years. Even though in 1991 we went 4-7 I thought that we were better than our record. We beat national champ Youngstown that year and when we blew a 4th quarter lead vs JMU and lost 35-34 the team packed it in for the year. JMU went on to the playoffs and got to the second round.

Yeah, but in the context of the years surrounding them, they were just more crap. Peaking at .500 just isn't anything to look back fondly on.

I understand what you mean, though.

In the 03, 04 years Karcher did just enough to keep his job then 05 hit and he was gone. I think that Karcher expected 03 and 04 to be 8 or 9 win seasons but early season losses kept that from happening.

Wins are nice but we can't get too excited over losses as long as we are upgrading our schedule and advancing the program toward 1A bowl eligible status.

Not to beat a dead horse but just to give a glimmer of hope from the past, the '88 team that had some real inspirational Christians on it and they put together a season with only three losses by a total of five points against a solid 1AA schedule. The following year our program made another jump and beat a team ranked in the top 25 1A nationally, then was featured in Sports Illustrated. It's been a long hiatus since, but Rocco gives me every indication we are back on the right track.

I didn't realize LU has had football since 1973. Is ole Jer a football fan? I suppose he has a seat in the tower where he can entertain the big dog contributors.

I've only known one prez (not at PC) who sat amongst the common folk on the 50 yard line and yelled like a cheerleader. He also ate hot dogs from the concession stand and spoke to every student and parent that came his way.

I'm looking forward to coming to Lynchburg, seeing the game and taking my mother and wife to TRBC Sunday morning.

I'm also looking forward to PC establishing a tradition of kicking LU's behind on the gridiron every year. Then we can change the words of that old Gospel classic "Moan Jeruselum Moan" to Moan Lynchburg Moan".

Y'all have a good day and remember to honor your mother 365 days not just next Sunday.

uh, you could say that.

and if you did- it would be the UNDERSTATEMENT of the YEAR

JF has been the driving force behind LU FB from day 1- esp the movement to move up to the FBS.

He has always had the vision of us meeting and BEATING Notre Dame.

so - YES- to put it mildly, "ole Jer is a football fan"

Well, our AD did retire the Dr. Falwell's "number 71" last year.

We did win in Boone...back in 1997. We've also won in Chattanooga as well :P

Sad fact: since winning at App to close out the '97 season, LU has won exactly 9 road games, 2 of which were just this past year.

So nice to have a guy from a D2 school that has yet to play a game as a FCS team come on here, and talk smack. See ya on the 27th of October when we pack 15,000 into Williams. :D

I've been badgering those guys to come over here so don't scare him off. :D

we need to properly orient them

starting rivalries will hopefully infuse life into this conference. I already hate CCU FB and WU hoops if that helps!

With 10 sold-out skyboxes, you could add another 500 to that number--15,500.
