I have no problems if people do not want to discuss it, but c'mon is this thing not very PUBLIC to begin with? My problem is I live 600 miles away from anyone who has knowledge to discuss it and I wouldn't mind sticking up for the guy if the rumors are indeed false (I live 600 miles away and have heard a few rumors). I can tell you of some absolute crap I have heard, but to refute it is impossible without knowing. If even some of the rumors I have heard are true, I wouldn't recommend anyone go to TTU. I trust that TTU has done their research before hiring him. Whatever damage is done so I really don't need to know details. Just would be nice to refute if the subject was ever broached in the future, but I can understand why others don't want to discuss it. I can also understand why it is none of my business and why it would probably be better I didn't know details. (I have learned in my short years from college, ignorance many times can be bliss ) :D

Anyways, to get back on subject, I'm sure the media will be all over this if this group gets arrested (which it sounds like they are wanting to do).

Feel free to discuss it all you want. I just don't think we should be swapping rumors. Look, I'll even post the email everybody got.
To My Friends In The Liberty University Family,

After the most recent events, I felt it necessary to write to you so you can hear my heart. After being your worship leader for seven years, and attempting to be a positive role model for you, I have failed. Because I have sinned, I have resigned my position at Liberty University and Eternal Praise.

Some 21 years ago, shortly after my Mom's death, I had my innocence
violated. As a result, I felt compelled to hide my struggles, fearing no one could or ever would help me. I have come to realize that people really do want to help me. I am seeking help through counseling and my true Christian brothers and sisters. I have faced my sins and I sincerely want to change.

I have stepped out of public ministry in order to give God a chance to
restore my heart. As my spiritual family, I want to ask two things of you. I want to ask your forgiveness for what I have done in letting you down. Secondly, I want to ask for your prayers during this dark and low time in my life.

I am especially grateful to Dr. Falwell and Dr. Borek for allowing me to send this letter to the Liberty family. I am also grateful for their support and compassion, along with my Dad's forgiveness and understanding during this time. I believe God can and will give me victory. Thank you again for all that you have done for me, and I am very sorry that I disappointed you, and most importantly, my Lord.

Sincerely,
Eric Lovett
It gives no specific details and people like to fill in the blanks themselves. That's where all of your wacky rumors come from. According to the letter he could have done anything from stolen a fork from Marriot to being a serial killer. So in short, he had sin in his life so he stepped down.

I agree about the swapping rumors, especially at this point. I did not mean to cause a ruckus and I don't want to be a gossip mill. My biggest issue is that if this were Jerry Falwell or some other big Liberty figure, people would have no problems discussing it (or gossiping about it). Unfortunately Eric was a HUGE name on campus. Everyone who attended Liberty from the mid 90's to early 2000's knows the guy (probably have met him at one time, but at least know his name and who he was). When someone of prominance steps down, out of the blue, I don't have a problem wanting to know exactly why. He was THE face at Liberty and I have heard countless rumors that state that Liberty has lost its' "moral compass" and sins are popping up in the leadership there. It was obvious that he didn't steal a fork or something trivial. It wasn't a difference of opinion that caused him to leave. It was splashed all over the National Enquirer (I saw it up here in Detroit). That doesn't make their story correct, but it does make him a big name and a big story against Liberty. Big enough to sell papers. When that kind of thing happens, it needs to be made known IMO. His dad was one of the main faces of Liberty. Many I talked with felt like Liberty was covering it up. I'm not sure how I felt about the whole thing as I personally knew Eric, but I wanted to defend my school and it was difficult to do in this situation. Just my two cents...

The joke about the deer is really funny though, i would probably have asked the same question had i seen that in the front yard.
I heard that Lovett became a Catholic priest.

What? Too soon?

Liberty is a private school, and should be allowed to prohibit anyone from coming on campus that they want. Likewise, if LU was a muslim school, they should have the right to ban Christians from their campus. As for the 38 percent, I wonder if they'd say that pro-life protestors should be allowed on the grounds of an abortion facility.

But where LU's property ends... that's fair game. I'd say that they have to right to be so gay on public property, they could build a Pottery Barn.

The whole front entrance is blocked right there by the football field. I could barely get in there. Several Lynchburg police cars as well as LUPD.

Just run them over. Spring break is worth it. Also, yell something derogitory at them. Maybe I'll leave work early and start a counter protest.

I was really tempted to yell something at them, but tha tis not Christ-like. Instead I just turned on some Christian music and had it blaring as loud as i could.

Sad that they think they will change our minds to be more "tolerant" of something that is clearly against the Word.

and I fail to see how attempting to get oneself arrested is an effective method of promoting constructive dialog. How about conferences, on a mutual site, starting in the beginning of the week, open to the public?

not dramatic enough I guess.

And not enough media coverage. This way WSET can do a story on how mean spirited LU is for not allowing them on the campus.

yeah- and then SET can run a story about how LUPD didn't report the shooting on the Crime Reports.

thats a win-win

are you allowed to shoot people on your property? It doesn't seem remotely legal but I have seen those signs before. I guess it's a bluff.

I believe in VA you can. Up here, they have to present a "credible threat", but if they are INSIDE your residence, you have reason to "fear for your life" and they are not ATTEMPTING TO FLEE- fire away.

not that I've researched this or anything. But Mrs2b knows her rights and is a good shot w/ a 9mm.
Or a 20 gauge and/or compound bow for that matter.
