I remember I heard something once that if youre head coach got fired, it was possible to get out your schollie without losing a year. I know Im obviously off, but does someone know how that would apply if its true at all?

This is great. We lose McLean and I believe Russ after next year so the timing is perfect.

For what it's worth, back in March, we posted that there was a strong possibility that Oesteicher would be coming in. Keep in mind that he has a tender knee and he is untested on the D-1 level. However, at 6-11 250, he may very well develope into a big time player. Sitting out another year will give him an opportunity to stregthen his knee and develope his skills.

Unfortunetly, sophomore point gaurd and Austrailian native, Ryan Kersten signed a professional contract to play in New Zealand. He was weighing his options before he signed the deal, and had
it not worked out, he would have joined McKay and Soucie
at LU.

Sophomore gaurd, David Kanyinda is probally staying at UNM with Alford.

Honestly, the 4 and 5 spot were my only concerns with McKay. Just because he's had some bad luck with them from what I understand. We've got good gaurds right now and I'm confident this staff can continue to get good gaurds. It still remains to be seen if Oesteicher will be any good, but getting him here is a great start.

This is great news! Obviously many of us on here were just waiting for it to become public, but it should be good. He will give us someone to put in the middle after Russ and McLean are gone, and he seems to be a pretty good 3 point shooter as well.

McKay says that he'll adjust his style of play to whatever it takes to win on this level. If he decides to go with more brawl than fineese, then I'd expect him to recruit more players who would fit better within that context.

UNM men's basketball: Recruit leaning toward Lobos

By Jeremy Fowler
Saturday, April 21, 2007[/b]

Monquel Pegues is a self-proclaimed "banger" who says he tries to reach the foul line at least four times a game and scores well with his back to the basket.

Sounds like one of the University of New Mexico's invisible players from last season.

Surely the Lobos could use the skills Pegues - a 6-foot-10, 256-pound beast out of Cape Fear (N.C.) Community College - says he possesses.

Oestreicher: The former Lobos redshirt freshman could end up with the coach who recruited him.

Former UNM coach Ritchie McKay told The Tribune he's recruiting 6-foot-11 Derek Oestreicher to his new school, Liberty, but declined further comment.

A coach can't describe a player until after that player signs a letter of intent.

A University of New Mexico source said Oestreicher is making the move to Lynchburg, Va.

Oestreicher's parents declined comment Friday when reached in Shasta Lake, Calif., where Oestreicher was a star at Liberty Christian High School.

FYI weshender, Ryan Mantlo, his JUCO coach, is a Liberty alum who played on our last conference championship team in 04. Good luck with this kid. No indication over here that he has any interest in LU, and in fact we may not have a schollie unless another of our current players leaves. Thanks for the info. I didn't know what Ryan was doing. Not surprised he is coaching though. If any of Mantlo's style has rubbed off on Pegues he will hustle, that's for sure.

No. It's highly unlikely he'd be here right now with finals coming up next week at a lot of schools.

I really think Ace is Fine at the 5... I mean he Averaged a double double, although I would rather see him at the 4

BUT! If McKay Starts Baker at the 4 then all of our problems and Concerns go away! WHAT A STUD! :bowdown

This is something that I am not positive about at this time, but a credible source says that Derek is not coming to Liberty, that he has bailed on RMK.

Not good for the program if true. Maybe someone here knows more than I do.

Not coming to Liberty? I thought he had already signed and was on the roster?

He's on the roster which means he's currently enrolled in the school.

I heard he decided he did not want to sit another season. As you know he missed last season due to injury. I hear he plans to attend a JUCO, then he come back to Liberty the following season???

Hope this does not hurt the chances to getting little sis to Liberty.
