Boy, it's just a shame that the poor people at Virginia Tech didn't have the last 2 pages of this thread at their disposal yesterday. They could have sat there in their classrooms, listening intently as the gunshots drew closer and closer. They could have analyzed the individual reports and determined that there were two semi-automatic weapons of differing calibers, one smaller than the other. They could also have learned that the gunman needed 7-8 full seconds and two hands to drop the spent clip and slap in a new one, which was obviously ample time for someone to jump him should he come to their room. After reading all this, they would have felt supremely confident in themselves as live bullets started tearing through the classroom door and their screaming friends and classmates started either jumping out of the 4th-floor windows or just plain dying. And, really, there's absolutely nothing about seeing someone get shot in the head that's even the slightest bit terrifying. It really is exactly like on TV.

Just a shame.

Don't be mean. People are just discussing the technical details of what happened because it's easier than discussing the fact that 33 people died yesterday. No one said this was what should have been done. In fact, if you had read, we were all quite clear that we were just speculating for the sake of speculation and not because we were saying what should have been done differently.

I can appreciate that. I know a guy who did nothing but crack jokes all day. It's utterly ridiculous and, honestly, more than a little offensive but I can appreciate it.

From the Doc:
From the Chancellor's Desk:

I ask that the Liberty family be in constant prayer for all whose hearts are hurting at Virginia Tech.

I called VT President Dr. Charles Steger immediately after the shootings with the intent of offering all Liberty’s resources to him to help the terrible breach on that campus. Phones were understandably dead. Liberty then contacted other officials and all our counselors and pastors from Liberty and Thomas Road Baptist Church have been offered to Virginia Tech as long as they are needed.

I re-emphasize that while everyone cannot participate, all can pray.
LCA's marquee also says "Pray for Va Tech."

I was listening to one of the students talk during an interview and he said the kid reloaded extremely quick in like 2 or 3 seconds, pretty efficient.

Holy crap. This dude sent a package to NBC with stuff in it. From the two minutes of stuff I've seen, this is freaking sick.

He said he died like Jesus Christ to inspire the hurt for generations to come.

They showed some of it on NBC Nightly News. I'm watching Hardball now.

Also of note, if you've got the time tonight:
There will be a candlelight vigil tonight at 9:15 pm after campus church at the Spirit Rock. Please bring candles and come to lift up the VT campus in prayer.

And one more:
Liberty Students are encouraged to join Tech supporters around the nation in wearing Virginia Tech T-shirts and colors on Friday, April 20, 2007.

Hey, Scorchy. I just thought of a reason to legalize partial-birth abortion.

Not a very Christian attitude, I know. Maybe, by tomorrow, I'll care.

What is ticking me off coming from a son of a shrink, is that they are actually airing this. Now we ARE going to have a repeat. Most of these paranoid, psychotic types do this stuff for attention. Now some pyschotic somewhere else is going to reason that he can put together a manifesto and it's certainly going to be shown post death.

I think a repeat is inevitable, regardless of what's shown on television. Just my opinion. I don't believe things like that have much to do with events like this, though. In the end a mentally unstable person is to blame. Not video games, not television, not the movies, not the school, not anyone but the person who did it. Rush Limbaugh actually had some great things to say about that today.

You lost me at Rush Limbaugh, but I do get what your saying. When someone wants to kill and do something like this, there isn't much that could have stopped him in the past, however, I do think by putting this on there it can add something to someone who is thinking like this. Hey, I'm going to be famous.

a couple things, im really surprised this happened monday and not this friday as this friday is 4/20 and thats the day that most of these types of things have happened in the past, its just a dark day. But i also hate the news and his english teacher and how today she was on the air saying she tried warning people he was going to do this because of his writing and blah blah blah shut the eff up lady. If you actually saw this coming you would have done something more than referring him to counseling. She can say she saw this coming all she wants, but she didnt, if she did, she sucks at life for not actually trying to stop it. The news stations need to just leave it alone. It happened, its tragic. Dont start making conspiracies and questioning how it was handled. Leave the president and the VTPD and everyone involved alone, at least for a couple weeks. Dont start questioning the people two days after it happened.

It's funny because I was linked to that article from a site where the primary demographic is made up of 20-30 year old liberal atheists. They were astounded that they agreed with Rush Limbaugh on something. I think they probably agree with him more than they realize, but most of them have been conditioned to write off the name without giving him a chance, so that's what they've always done. Rush actually lines up pretty much right with where I am right now. He's called the current administration out on being moderates in conservative clothing. He railed against a Republican congress that didn't do anything even remotely conservative for the six years they were in power. He's given them both the harshest criticisms I've ever heard for expanding government and government power over the last six and a half years. For whatever reason, he's been labeled as a hate-monger who tows the party line. I've just never heard that from him.

Watching that video makes me so freaking angry...seriously, who does this guy think he is...and to end it all he took the easy way out by killing himself.

God bless all the families affected by this tragedy and the shooter's family too...im sure none of them did anything to deserve this.
