I'm not sure. I hadn't seen anything and/or heard anything from him.

Some jerk from Radford just started asking stupid questions at this press conference.

the worst part of this is that there won't be any easy answers, and everyone is going to want immediate action. You simply can't secure a major university of that size. I know this sounds harsh, but I'm actually surpised that college shootings,( not neccesarily at this scale), don't occour more often. There are lots of depressed students out there who are probably on the brink. The bottom line is, any college campus is vulnerable to a tragedy such as this.
Hopefully everybody will see this as a wake-up call and reach out to that lonely, sad classmate.
God bless the hokie nation.

I've already read one article downplaying the events and calling for gun control. Liberal opportunism.

We, as humans, tend to need something or someone to blame. Since the only person truly responsible for this tragedy is dead, people are looking for a place to vent. Unfortunately it's probably going to be in the direction of the Chief of Police at VT, the President of VT and at campus security in general. They'll spend a lot of money and time trying to figure out ways to make the campus more secure, and they may pass some new rules and/or laws. In the end, the fact remains that if a unstable person with any amount of intelligence wants to do something crazy, they're going to do it.

Anyone who wants to place blame on anyone other than the shooter is out of line, IMHO. This is a tragedy and instead of attacking each other, it would be a good time for people to come together. I can only hope that in the end, that's what will happen.

Unconfirmed but reasonable based on current confirmed information:
According to unconfirmed rumors available to The Reference Frame, the killer was a 6-foot tall male Asian - I suppose East Asian - student between 20 and 25 years from Radford University whose girlfriend from Virginia Tech left him. He had two guns (at least one of which was a 9 mm caliber handgun) and wore a vest - probably a bulletproof vest - with too much ammunition as well as a maroon cap and a black leather jacket.

In the morning around 7:15 am, he went to her dormitory in the West Ambler Johnston Hall. She was not there so he shot her roommate and the residential assistant. They didn't shut down the university, so he continued and tried to find the ex-girlfriend and her new boyfriend in the classroom of the Norris Hall (engineering) a few hours later. He didn't know the exact location, so he has visited a few classes, lined up all students against a wall, and shot them one by one - and then himself by a shot into his head.

not to try and take away from the tragedy of today, just explaining. My junior year i lived a gang infested part of central california, with fights on campus everyday. One day, two rival gangs started an extreme brawl that ended up in a gun fight during school, leaving 2 dead. The tragic part of these events was that because the fights were such a regular occurence and there were shootings outside of school everyday, the fact that it was on a school campus didnt matter to anyone and it was reported as just another gang fight in town. My heart goes out to virginia tech students because in my case, i was able to go home and feel safe, these students are at their home, where can they go now?

unbelievable. i have listened to an interview or two that made me think he didn't actually line people up, but that's not the point right now. it doesn't blow my mind that someone is that crazy, but it does blow my mind that he was going for 1 or 2 people, and killed 32. who else knew this guy would be doing this? is it over in this situation? so many questions. my friends and i just sat outside a second ago in silence. there are no words to describe the way something like this makes us feel.

The thing is, does someone at Tech who lost some friend retaliate? I know it sounds crazy, but it's a serious possibility.

i'd say there is a great possibility of that. as we've seen, people are crazy. how should the entire situation be handled as far as classes, lockdown, anything? difficult place to be in. administration and authorities over there no doubt need our prayers for wisdom in their decision making.

Me and Libertine were talking earlier about the very real problem of the cafeterias being closed. If they were keeping kids on campus, and a diabetic needed food, how would he/she get it? I realize a lot of kids went home, but they can't stay home forever. Where do the kids in West AJ stay when they get back if they don't feel comfortable living there? How long before classes start again? Is the exam schedule redone?

The tragedy happened, and now comes the hard part.

Ok, I get that this was a tragedy, and it sucks that it happened, but the amount of Facebook groups and events is ridiculous. Maybe I have no heart, I don't know. However, in two months, on my "News Feed" it's going to show me every single person who leaves these groups that say "Never Forget" on them.

The amount of people who have "Praying for VT" or "God Bless VT" in their status is bugging me too. I'm not talking about LU students when I say this. I have a ton of friends who have put that, but yet they deny God with their lifestyle everyday of the week. I told TDDance earlier tonight that these kids deny God every single day by their lifestyle when things are good, and then the second something goes wrong, it's back to God. I don't know why it annoys me but it does. Be hot, or be cold, luke warm sucks.

Sorry for the rant, it's just really annoying me.

yea, i voted to join A group and AN event. i was wondering the same thing earlier on in the day when i was watching my high school friends put up new statuses... and i know these people are no where near even luke warm. i would hope that anyone joining a group saying they'll pray, will pray. and anyone joining a group saying "God Bless VT," will ask God to bless the Hokies.

i agree it's frustrating, but on a brighter side of things, i hope that the entire situation will bring atleast one unbeliever to the Lord. we just discussed tonight, can we really wonder why this guy would do this? if evolution is teaching everyone that there is no meaning to life... i hope someone, somewhere is asking a lot of questions, and i hope someone is there with the Answer.

I'm tired of this whole VT thing. Put Leno on NBC instead of coverage so I can laugh and go to sleep. I'm tired of playing through my mind of what I would do in this situation. I'm tired of thinking about how to barricade my classes or escape from each classroom I'm in. Give me something to laugh at so I can sleep. The coverage is just making us think about this too much, and for those of us in college, it can be too much.

I hadn't really thought too much about it today other than, "Thank God it wasn't here." I got in bed and was saying my prayers before I went to sleep and I specifically prayed, "Thank You that it didn't happen here, but if it did, I pray that You give me the courage to keep those around me safe." Once I prayed that, every possible situation came flooding into my head, I could visualize some of it somewhat, and I literally had to get out of bed just so I could try to clear my head.

Please, give me something just to keep my mind off of it.

yea, just waiting for all of that type of stuff to pop up. won't be long.

jon, if you're still up... i was looking on the top stories about the VT tragedy, and happened to run across this one. it took my mind of it for a second:
MARRERO, La. — Dozens of girls were turned away from a prom at Higgins High School because a teacher thought their dresses were too revealing.

Families of the girls said the teacher cited alleged violations of the Jefferson Parish schools dress code, most of them related to excessive display of cleavage.

"I was embarrassed," said Miranda Melerine, 17, a senior at the Marrero high school, who was among those barred by teacher Judy Gardner, an adviser to senior activities. "We can't go back to prom night. Prom's over. Our prom has been stolen from us."

Melerine said she is larger-busted than many of the girls who passed inspection at the door. She said it is harder for her to get the right fit in a prom dress and that Gardner gave her blessing to a picture of the dress long before the dance.

Earlis Fayette, 18, said his girlfriend also was sent away by Gardner at the door.

"I find it's wrong, because you can't help what the girl has. You're born with that," he said. "I think it was discrimination toward a woman who has features."

Gardner refused to talk with parents who rushed to the dance hall Friday night after frantic calls from daughters. She also declined comment Saturday to The Times-Picayune of New Orleans, saying she is not allowed to talk to the press. The Associated Press could not locate her Sunday.
