I am very good friends with an RA....mrich was my former RA

The ultimate RA, Joe Butler was my first RA

I am not trying to knock all RA's, I was able to be one at one time, I just think that if were going by rules, then all should be accountable, not just certain students.....

Oh and if you don't know Joe Butler, I believe he is still the head of residence life and ask him about how good of a resident I was if you really think I act like a 12 year old

so it sounds to me like you're in agreement with everybody but TBGBG who is just an irrational homer.

I have been on the war path of power hungry RA's who do things that are wrong, but nothing happens to them...Also, I used to think ACE was a punk until I met him and he is a very nice guy who is trying is best at LU

Ive managed to get along with all my RAs over my going on 5 years here at LU. yeah I have gotten my fair share of pink slips (heck Im on my second turn on probation this semester although I can thank Dean guthrie for not getting completely tossed out of school since he helped counsel me during a very low period for me a couple years ago...head to my thread in the chapel section to find out about that), but these guys want to really be your friends, but they know that when you break a rule, you have to pay the consequences. the ones who don't Frankly to me are doing a disservice to the title. Yeah I know that there are those ultra-legalist type RAs (anybody remember Steve Gregorin?) but there are good honorable ones that will give latitude if there is a very valid reason for what happened to you in a situation like being late for convo or curfew, and they want to help you through your time on their hall.

BJ- I have trouble conceiving of any situation that involves you being malicious enough to earn reps.

you weren't the guy throwing your microwave out a 4 story window were you?

I had a few minor violations that earned me reps here and there. Oddly enough, the worst thing I ever did didn't earn me any reps, even though I distinctly remember the Chief of LUPD at the time threatening to take me and a couple of other guys to the magistrate to be booked.

The most infuriated I've ever been with an RA, or anyone for that matter, was when I got reps for not emptying our trash one day. Now, keep in mind I was an SLD on this hall. I was part of the leadership team. One of my room jobs, obviously, was to empty the trash. When I got up that morning, I emptied the trash before I went to my 8am class. Well, my roommate didn't have class until after convo at 10am. He slept in until just before convo, and then decided while he was getting ready that he'd like a candy bar for breakfast. He had one and threw the wrapper in the trash. When I got back to our room after convo, I had two reps waiting for me on my pillow for having trash in our trash can. I took a walk down to my RA's room to explain what happened. He said "Doesn't matter. The trash was supposed to be empty and it wasn't. That's two reps." We argued for a bit. I got mad. By the time it was over I had thrown the trashcan at his head. He didn't take the reps back and I didn't miss when I threw the trashcan.

I think it was even.

Unless he was just goofing with you (2 reps is nothing), then I think that's the type of person that shoudl not be an RA. I know some on here have stated how wrong it is for an RA to let certain things go while repping others, it's pretty obvious that it should be up to the RA ultimately, and that just shows what poor judgement your RA actually had.

No...I have seen starnger things though...most of my reps Ive gotten were for pretty silly stuff (although I did get reps over teh R rated movie thing thanks to my roommate my freshman year) if you want to know the story about this latest probation you cna IM or PM me and I will tell you (as that would be a more suitable arena for such information)

It was typical of him, as an RA. That team did the good cop/bad cop routine perfectly. It didn't win him any friends being such a hard nose, though. I could go further, but he and I are actually friends now, so I'll leave it at that. He's a good guy. He just needed to chill out a little in college. :)

I got 4 reps for improper sign out which put me over into probation territory...but the thing with this improper sign out was that I filled everything in except for the kids parents phone number....he said he would just fill it in when he filled his out (we went in 2 separate cars)...when we stopped for food we asked him if he had done it for us, and he had forgot...we didn't think much of it just said we would make sure to tell the RA about when we got back....so we did and he said he would still have to give us reps but it would without a doubt be appealed...I thought to myself "that is dumb"...but just let it go because I thought they would be appealed...well, he came back 2 days later and said they weren't appealed...and I just lost it...I had been getting dumb reps all semester long and was just fed up...This was sophomore year and I had quit smoking and was not doing anything remotely close to wrong....I was actually being a good kid....freshmen year was a whole other story, but I got a grand total of 2 reps that year....anyways, i just lost it and ripped the reps up, threw them at him and yelled, "You are a freaking idiot...you knew I didn't deserve these reps and still wrote them (then ripped reps up), just take these d*** reps and get the h*** out of my room"...but somehow I didn't get reps for that

Some RA's just don't make any sense

the 20 hours community service in the marriot was just soooooo great...I almost left liberty after that...but I like Liberty and knew God wanted me here and stayed...but man I was so mad about that

why didn't you call your RA or somebody on the hall and have them write it in for you, stupid?

I will say this though, I got about 4 reps a semester and they were more on purpose than anything. I had a quota to fill. It was kind of a game though. One of my RA's spent 2 years trying to catch me with my shirt untucked, because I only tucked it when I knew I'd see him. He finally did catch me. But anyway, if you get relatively rational RAs you shouldn't ever get more than a few reps.

I was lucky enough to have RA's who didn't take room checks too seriously unless the RD was with them. I'd imagine if they were a little more strict about that, I'd have gotten a lot more and had to pay fines. (or cleaned my room)

BJ-what did you think of an RA by the name of Craig??
(for those who don't know, Craig was probably one of the most, if not the most, slack RA in the history of LU)

Ahh yes...the guy could not bear to give anybody reps...even if their room consistently looked like the combination of an F5 tornado and a nuclear airstrike had occurred in there

Or if someone just happened to stop at the Peaks of Otter and climb Sharp Top at 2 in the morning on the way back from a hockey game...which may or may not have been me.
