I need help. We are a week into the baseball season, and I haven't seen my first Oriole game on Comcast (aka, Lynchburg cable). So what are my options here, and which one is the best (i.e., cheapest)? I don't have to watch every Oriole game, but 2-3 a week would make my life much happier. Here are the options that I have thought of so far (see poll). Please suggest other options (and prices) as well.

Like I said...I would be very suprised if Comcast carries MASN, the new Orioles' (and Nationals) station. Go DirecTV and you cannot go wrong.

Thanks, Fumble, but I need a few more details.

What's the start up cost and monthly bill for Direct TV?

Do I pay extra for the MASN channel, or does that come with Direct TV?

And can I still get my local channels?

Smoothy, I've been a fan since '71, and my dad used to take me to games before I could walk. I'm hooked for life.

But Brooks Robinson isn't running out of that dugout anytime soon, CJ.

I believe MLB Extra Innings is probably the way you want to go. You play a flat rate for the season.

1. no start up cost- they actually install everything for free, usually give you a good deal- like multiple recievers, etc

2. regional sports channels are usually extra- up here, Comcast blacks it out so you have to buy the premium package to get them. Otherwise, you're guaranteed ONE (just not in SE PA)

3. YES. for an additional 5 bucks/mo you get all the local channels (we get about 10 or 12 locals, incl the Spanish language and "artsy" ones that I never watch)

I love my DirecTv.

1. Not sure on the start-up. Call DirecTV for more information.

2. MASN is part of the basic package, which includes all the ESPN's except ESPNU. CSTV is now part of basic as is the NFL Network.

3. I think it is like $5 extra per month to get local channels...but they come in great.

4. Only drawback, something like $5 extra per month for extra receivers.

Go to this site...and you can pretty much figure out everything...

Many thanks for Fumble & Medic, but according to this link http://www.directv.com/DTVAPP/global/co ... d=P3000004 Direct TV will show you anything happening in DC (baseball, basketball, soccer, etc.), but still NO Oriole baseball if I live in the 24502 zip code. Am I missing something here, because I still haven't seen Oriole baseball in my area code, even with the sports package?

You must be missing something...
...here is a link to an article from the Roanoke paper which will interest you:

http://www.roanoke.com/sports/baseball/wb/wb/xp-111008

Trust me...the ONLY way you are going to watch O's games is thru DirecTV...
...I even saw an article that mentioned that ESPN games featuring the O's will be blacked out by the cable companies. If all you want is the O's...you will see plenty of their games on MASN...and would not even have to purchase the baseball package.

Fumble, do you and others in the Lynchburg area with Direct TV get the MASN channel which broadcasts Oriole games?

I've looked through all the Direct TV packages, and the only one I saw with the MASN channel is the Premier ($65). Is that accurate or is the MASN channel on some of the smaller/cheaper packages?

I thought about getting the MLB package for this summer since I have summer classes but my classes are in the morning so it doesn't help.

If you look at the mlb.tv main page, you can enter your zip code and find the teams that are blacked out in your area. The Orioles are on the list for Lynchburg - 24502. MLB.tv is so frustrating. I used to watch the Astros (currently this year's worst team in all of MLB) games, when they filtered based on billing address. Now they use IP addressing to filter out "home" teams. I am over 10 hours from Houston and can't watch them online. However, if I drive 15 minutes to the Kansas border, I can watch all I want. It's stupid.

I have no idea. We have Total Choice Plus (the basic package plus about 12 different Discovery Channels), and we get MASN.

Fumble, that helps. I actually emailed Direct TV with my question yesterday morning, and they had an answer back by that evening--the Choice package comes with MASN, so I'm going to call them today to enquire further. I do miss my O's baseball.

I was watching the O's today here in MD on MASN and it is great to see Orioles baseball back at Camden Yards. Did anyone see preame introductions? During introductions they came out to and will come out to "Desire" by U2. The Orioles video people do a great job with pregame and introduction videos. The video was AMAZING!!

If you sign up...I think there is a way where we BOTH can get $50 out of it.
