Ritchie is a good coach and a great human being. He took Sweet 16 UNLV to overtime twice this year. He had some horrible luck this year. The Lobos lost three of their last four games in OT and the other by one point.

The problem with Ritchie is he was snuck into the job in the middle of the night. Lobo fans went to bed thinking Rob Evans of Arizona St. was going to be named the head coach, then woke up in the morning to find out Ritchie had been named coach in the middle of the night. UNM started him off on the wrong foot, and it never changed. Many fans never gave him a chance. But I've seen him outcoach good coaches such as Majerus when he was at Utah and Huggins now at K St.

He was just way over his head here. The Lobo job is a unique job because of the intense pressure, but the lack of resources. Other than the Pit (our BB arena that was named by Sporting News as one of the top 20 sporting venues of the century), UNM doesn't have the tradition that we think we have. I think Liberty is a perfect match for his coaching abilities, his spiritual beliefs and his personality.

And, that lack of resources would explain Alford getting $975,000? We make more money off of women's hoops than the vast majority D1 men's hoop programs.

That's a nice way of saying that you're not actually going to support that new coach so that just in case it doesn't work out, you can say "I told you so." This is not a board for Dunton fans. It's a board for Flame fans. You're being a jerk, and your previous comment was absolutely borderline racism.

You're the first person I've ever seriously considered banning from the board. That goes for all of your names. (And don't try to play me on that one. Believe me, I know.)

It's time for this to end. Now. If there's even so much as a hint of racism from your name(s) or anyone posting from addresses I can link to you, you're toast.

THANK YOU ELSCORCHO!

Really?

You consider a coach that has one winning stint in 4 coaching gigs as the level of Marshall, who has never had a losing season?

Maybe he'll work out, but I thought you could have done much better.

Maybe Marshall should have tried harder for that job...but they prob wanted someone with mid major or major basketball experience....so he couldnt help it
One more thing: What will become of Winthrop after Marshall leaves. We appear to be set with McKay. Who's going to end up coaching Winthrop and will he be anywhere near the level of a Greg Marshall.

Marshall may not be going anywhere...
http://www.aolsportsblog.com/2007/03/25 ... t-for-him/
So what is Winthrop going to do to try to keep Marshall? Fox Sports is reporting that he could get a contract guaranteeing him $400,000 a year for 10 years, but there's something else in the offer: The school might name its basketball court for Marshall.

Gregg Marshall made a trip to Tampa on Friday night and it appears as though he's the front-runner for the South Florida job.

However, Winthrop is doing its best to keep Marshall. According to a pair of sources, Winthrop is offering $400,000 per year, a 10-year deal and also potentially naming the court after him.

His best days at Winthrop are now officially behind him and he knows it. I seriously doubt that he has another Martin and Bradshaw coming in.

He's gotta move on while he's still hot. With only one NCAA win, he can't afford to sit complacently in Rock Hill while Ritchie McKay up in Lynchburg surpasses his program.

At the very least, Brad Soucie should be coming in with McKay.

It sounds like we may be losing Sherard and Jones.

Stay tuned.

Yeah, but I wouldn't ban to shut someone up without justification. If I did that, then I'd be here talking to myself. ;)

As it is, this was just a warning, but it was the final one. I really really hope this isn't someone who's just misplacing their passion for the program.

The tone of this question is merely out of genuine curiousity, not an aspersion: where do you get your "sounds like" information from? Personal intuition, or do you have six degrees of separation access to inside info?

From what I'm hearing Paradox is correct. I'm sure we'll hear who McKay is bring with him tomorrow.

And yes, for all of the rumblings he's generated on this board he has had his facts straight more often than not. Granted he has very strong personal opinions that often play into his posts. But frankly I love strong personal opinions on a board like ours. 8)

Congrats on landing Richie McKay and Brad Soucie. Both are good coaches and great guys. I really think the experience here in ABQ was valuable for them, and they had their best recruiting class committed before they were let go. It's unfortunate they weren't able to see those guys into the program.

McKay is also familiar with Tyler Baker, he's an Albuquerque product and former player of NM Force (an AAU club team). He was a Redshirt Frosh for you guys this year, I think he'll be a good one for you guys over the next 3 years.

I'm very happy for RM and BS, Congrats again!
