If Marshall Makes a half mil or more in the big south, that will really through the salary range for lower conferences in a tizzy. That is unheard of money at this level even for a guy like Gregg.

WU fans...did they give him a raise last time he cried wolf or no?

It seems like they rework his contract every year to give him more. There's no way they can put up that kind of jack, though. I guess if some magical donar swoops in and completely subsidizes it ala Art Williams, but that just seems crazy.

I don't feel bad because I don't think he is looking at another job to get more money from Winthrop. I don't think he has done that for some time now. He might have early on when he was making 60k, but not now. Plus, I think he is pretty close to the Pres. and the AD so I don't think he would do that to them.

I'm not saying he won't ever leave Winthrop... I'm just saying I don't think he would use another school to get more money from Winthrop. I think he should be paid whatever Winthrop can pay him because I think he is worth it.

This has to be somewhere so just delete it
Iowa's Steve Alford and New Mexico are working out the final details of a contract, and unless there is an unexpected impasse, he will be named the next head coach of the Lobos at a Friday news conference, multiple sources told ESPN.com Wednesday.

New Mexico zeroed in on Alford within the past two weeks while also waiting to talk to Winthrop's Gregg Marshall whose team was playing in the NCAA Tournament. But according to multiple sources, UNM told Marshall on Tuesday that they were going with another candidate.

Marshall could go to t.u. after Rick Barnes leaves...Barnes has been putting feelers out for a new job

Why is he discontent at texas? Better yet, where would he advance to? Michigan? Kentucky (PERHAPS)? With Michigan's steady decline since the fab five desolved, I don't think most fans would even consider Michigan a high profile job. If Barnes is truly upset at Texas, then he must be dealing with some inner turmoil within the walls of the Texas athletic dept. Perhaps he's just grown tired of playing second-fiddle to Mac. Austin just seems like to nice of a place to intentionally leave. I can't help but scratch my head at this one.

let me correct myself on this one- Michigan will always be a high-profile job, but I don't think most fans and experts would consider texas to michigan an upward transition for barnes.

hoops - You're new around here so I'll let you in on the joke. Zack was taking a shot at UT by bringing up the Barnes baloney. Barnes is going nowhere. Nothing shy of UNC would even interest him in the slightest (he's a native North Carolinian). And with his willingness to go nose-to-nose with Dean back in the day, I don't see that ever happening. Its another high profile coach in the Lone Star State that has reportedly been sending signals he'd be interested in the right jobs if they were to open.
