I really hope LU works to make the station more than a "skip" on the remote. Channels that are exclusively religious are next to useless. LU has the opportunity to get some reruns of wholesome shows, mix it with news broadcasts, coaches shows, etc. It COULD be a fantastic opportunity if it's done right... I just hope they don't turn it into another EWTN (Catholic station)...

University officials said shows will be "similar ... but more varied" to current programs on LU's ministries' radio station, WRVL-FM, and the low-powered WTLU-TV.

WTLU is so low-powered I cannot get the pix to come in at my house...
...less than 2 miles from the university. When it was on channel 19, it came in fine.

would it not make sense to simply disband WTLU and switch everything over to the hi-power station?

I have no idea what I'm talking about- maybe they need something lo-power for students to play around with

Do you think they continue to carry "extra" games on the channel? By that, I mean, this past weekend, the Big XXII Championship games and Big Ten games were supposed to be on CBS. They were pre-empted by the ACC tourney (supposed to be on ESPN nationally) so...they showed some of the Big Ten on WDRL. I know this has happened in the past...sometimes you get games on WDRL you do not get anywhere else? There always does seem to be a CBS tie in though. Do you think there are plans to continue this, or will it become strictly an LU station?

I'd love to see the station do what Joel Osteen put together down here in Houston with 55 The Tube. As Tally suggested, it combined traditional values shows with local programming aimed to serve a specific purpose.

55 The Tube Website

They do some local sports & lifestyle programming that doesn't break the bank. Joel recently sold the station and they dropped some of the more overt Christian local shows that included a program for Teens.

Yeah, I maight be able to convince Mrs. Sly to leave behind Virginia for the right opprtunity in Lynchburg.

Sly... that channel is just about exactly what I think would work for this station... You get the local flare on there... that can be next to nothing with locals (students) doing much of the work to put it together... with today's technology you can even have people submit stories/videos of their own from around town... Hampton Roads (where I live) has a site called HamptonRoads.tv which isn't on TV but could generate an audience locally if they ever were to give it a shot... granted in their case it may be financially out of reach but if we (LU) own the station... this is something much easier to produce...

LU REALLY needs to take a look at this... it certainly could be a viable option for that station... otherwise it will draw a few thousand faithful but not much more.

Although I am certain there will be shows highlighting Missionary positions...
...in the field of spreading God's word.

Give me a daily show Sly if you are the program director...I could easily do what Regis and Kelly do I think. I can talk about current events and celebrity gossip as well as anyone. Ask the young ladies that work with me :o. I could line up Eric Green as a recurring guest. Toby Mac could come in and be my band leader, Medic could be my side kick

I just hope we keep some of the quality programming that's on WDRL right now. On TV this afternoon is an old episode of Daniel Boone, with Jimmy Dean (of Jimmy Dean sausage fame) acting his heart out as a frontiersman with a long rifle. :P

My grandmother is cousins with Jimmy Dean. But no sausage money for me  Apparently there was a fussin' and a feudin' years ago.

I just can't watch Joel Osteen on TV. The eyes thing gets to me after about 45 seconds.

This has been in the works for a while.. LU was supposed to take this over about a month ago, we were discussing this with some of the LUTV guys and the great Dave Ross "All about sports show" will more than likely not make the cutt and the option to pick up games that the local CBS does not cover will not happen... Which sucks, but such is life

I assume since the school is going to be listed as the new owner (based on the fishwrap stories) that the station will become noncommercial. That's too bad.

I wouldn't exactly call it commercial now.

Point well taken. But it has the potential to be a money maker if managed properly.

This owner must've really had no clue when the UPN affiliation died. That lineup is nothing short of embarassing.
