I am sure the fact wasn't the museum or even having a flag in the museum, but having it painted on a wall out in the open is not smart...for a casual passerby who is visiting the campus all they see is the confederate flag and know nothing about this museum. Liberty is building a better rep with christian african american's...something like that could kill it...like it or not

I do however believe the southern flag should be represented INSIDE the museum

I am sure some of you good ol' southern boys will still find a way to disagree with my post though

According to my HIUS 222 professor, the civil war was neither about slavery nor states' rights; all that was a smokescreen for the ideological battle between the Transcendentalists in the North and the Biblical Christians in the South. People like Frederick Douglas and Abraham Lincoln were well meaning, but they were ultimately pawns in the spiritual chess game that was the Civil War. The downward spiral of American Christianity began not in 1962, when prayer was removed from public schools, but nearly 100 years earlier, when the Transcendentalists won the ideological war against the Christians.

At least, that's what I was told.

I know, your professor probably has several degrees in history...

Good to see it being taken down but as someone said it just needs to be moved maybe inside. My old high school prof said "History is the recollections of rich dead white men." Take it for its worth, and although its probably not going to contribute to this arguement, its the only thing I remember. Didnt Lincoln at first say itd be best to ship the slaves back??? Its a serious question I am trying to remember and Im doing research today on it but if anyone has an answer.....

If you are a Civil War buff, it's the flag that has red & white stripes like the US flag, but in the top left corner, the stars are in a circle: still a confederate flag, but not the "battle flag" that's up there now.

To me, that sounds like a fair compromise.

It's also more historically accurate. The director is referring to the Confederacy's first national flag. The Confederate flag as we've come to know it and the one which usually gets people worked up was actually the Confederate naval flag. I'm not sure about the chaplaincy arrangement on ships during the Civil War but that hardly seems to be the focus of this museum.

Truth be told, the naval battle flag was adopted by the regular forces as the rebellion became protracted.

And I agree that this change is exactly what should've been done in the first place. Big ups for those responsible for this decision.

Minor detail: the naval flag was rectangular but the battle flag adopted by the regular troops was square-shaped. Until I see the KKK marching through the streets with a square Confederate flag, I will refuse to accept that they truly represent me as a southerner.

That was no office. Offices have desks. Blass just had a writing surface propped up by a wall of books -- on top of which he stacked more books.
