I apologize at the outset but I need a “forum” to vent mounting frustration with our defense. For the past 3 years we have been, IMHO, consistently poor in several areas. In fact, the last dominant performance on that side of the ball that I remember was the Cure Bowl against Georgia State in the Hugh Freeze era. The following is a list of my grievances.

1. We have been a poor tackling team, particularly in space under this coaching staff.
2. Our defensive backs always seem to face guard the receivers on long passes and seemingly never turn to find the ball.
3. Pressure on the opposing QB has been minimal.
4. Failing to stop our opponents on third and long has been a trademark.
5. A “bend but not break” philosophy has not serves us well.

We lost to Jax State who could not have been any more one dimensional! Although there are several reasons for the loss, failing to make stops in key situations when we knew what was coming was a major contributor.

Is the problem schematic or a lack of talent. I respect so many of your insights and would welcome your thoughts in this thread. If this trend continues, I may need therapy!

The defense has been an issue since Day 1. HCJC is a very loyal person and I completely respect that. In coaching sometimes you have to make youth decisions. This will be a test for him

I think if we didn’t lead the country in interceptions the Fiesta Bowl year (which is mostly fluky and completely unpredictable) then we would have a very different view on Chadwell’s time here so far. That was, again, a bad defense….but somehow intercepted 20 something passes.

It feels like we have slid on the recruiting trail. I would say we’ve done so-so in the portal. If we lose 4 games this year with the 130th worst schedule in the country there are going to be some rumblings. Yes, the season can be turned around and it is still early but…. I don’t have a great feeling about the season right now. I hope I end up being wrong.
