I’m legitimately worried we are going to lose this game. The offense has made it abundantly clear that the defense must put them in a great position or they won’t score…or the defense or special teams need to score themselves.

Vanilla play calling which is expected
I like Vassos toughness and can see why he won the job.
Other than #9 the WR corp is less than impressing.
The defense is as frustrating as always
BUT the lack of penalties was absolutely delightful to see. If they had committed penalties at the pace they have the last few years I’m not sure they win this game. That is a super encouraging sign
On the other end of the spectrum…..
Concessions are an absolute nightmare. 1st there’s NO County Smoak. It was replaced by some type of Sodexo bbq place and it was more disappointing than a pair of socks at Christmas. They made mistakes on 2 or my 3 orders. But they were not alone. The folks doing drinks had a difficult time too. They got our initial order right but messed up our refills. Did the same with several around us.
Also, fan etiquette is a foreign concept to our new aisle makes. If you need to leave your seat 6 times over the course of a game you’re doing it wrong!

This might be a long season on the field. It’s certainly going to be a long season in the stands

Defense was only frustrating in that despite dominating over 90% of the snaps, they gave up almost half of Maine's total offense and their only score on just 3 explosive runs. One would hope that is fixable. I'd be way more concerned if Maine had been able to move the ball consistently.

Vasko got it done down the stretch when it counted, and his numbers ended up being pretty impressive.

WRs were not what I was hoping for. Maine had 6 pass breakups, which is a ton, and an indication we were not getting separation.

First games are tough to react to.
Concerns I have are in the trenches. Our O line struggled for big portions in both the run game and in pass protection. Tucker(RT) was off balance on several occasions. Bedosky looked shaky too. In our scheme to attack the boundaries, if our tackles can’t hold blocks this team will struggle to move the ball consistently…as we did for 3 quarters.
D line had issues just getting lined up and then were late off the ball. We don’t appear to have a lot of speed off the edge.
Kicking game….rinse, repeat
Where was the TE production? Or scheme to utilize?

The good:
Depth - looks like we have built a strong 2-3 deep in most areas. That was the difference in the 4th. Our guys were still fresh.
WR targets - it wasn’t pretty or overall productive but you can see we have options. Have some hope for a marked improvement.
Cover corners. Harmon and Williams looked great. Had some bad angles by safeties on a few occasions but overall a good looking back line.
Chemistry- team looks more unified than any point last year.

Jax St will tell us a lot!

I recall 3 specific plays where the TE wide open down the middle of the field. I just don’t think they are looking for him.
