oldflame you are cold, Zander is officially a flame and has been on an official visit. It more on the lines of a replacement player (portal-older player) for Jayvon/Taelon or plyer yet to be named as entry to portal.

My guess on the player that has yet to be named as an entry to the portal is Aquino. I thought it was odd that he wasn't included in the graphic the team put out with Metheny, Porter and Cleveland on it. If that's the case, I hope they were wining and dining that 7'0" kid from Maryland.

That would be Braden Pierce, who missed most of last year with an eye injury. Was he on campus? Certainly looks like he would be an upgrade from Kai Yu.

Let's keep in mind though that even without Aquino or a transfer to replace him, we have a lot of size returning and arriving.

Nope this kid is 4" shorter weighs much much less. Let's think more of a European type of player (not from states) possible project 2-year player that could be really really good.

Our returning bigs are Ihnen, Smith and Cleveland. Two of those players have been injury ridden, which would potentially leave Cleveland. Even with Aquino I suspect HCRM is looking in the portal.

DIII is on the rise!
Hey, If Keenan Gumbs had a clone in the transfer portal right now, we should snap him up!

Wilkerson is the best of the 3 IMHO. Pierre is overrated. Won POY because he scored a few more points on a zillion more shots. We absolutely stifled him. Wolley was impressive for a FR.
Isn't taking more shots & scoring more points what all the Armchair coach posters think is most beneficial to being the best player on team? I thought Pierre was really good he just couldn't determine a good shot from a bad one, and he took a lot of bad ones. What about Porter from MTSU we did a number on him also. Woolley was really good, but he didn't force the issue like the others did. I thought he just let the game come to him and could just jump in at any time and make a play. He will do well next year in the ACC.
Play Basketball :)
My favorite stat is "Effective FG %, which is where you take the number of 2s made and add the number of 3s made x 1.5, then divide by the number of total FG attempts. The NCAA only publishes it as a team stat, not individual. Liberty finished 2nd in the nation this year at .583; just behind Cornell and ahead of Duke
Nerd Alert :) :D

I can confirm that flamehunter's post is the first mention of Aquino's departure on this forum. I was not aware of it til he posted, so, thanks for the update compadre.

On further reflection, I can kinda-sorta see Owen's reasoning. He knows how good Ihnen is, and I'm guessing Smith also has been able to practice a little as well (his injury was over a year ago). He probably has also seen what Grimes and Drain have on their visits. Maybe he anticipated a diminished role next year. Transferring is a risk on his part for sure.

Oldflame I would be surprised if any freshman LU will get would take minutes away from Owen.

It’s all speculation but yes. Owen is totally different from let’s say Wooley. IMO high major throwing money to this kids, but I’ve also heard horror stories about getting to said school and was lied to. You really never know and whom could you believe.

I speculated about it being a high major program courting Aquino because we are being told that our collective fundraising is on a par with the best on our level. If so, one would think if keeping Owen were a high priority, we would not be outbid except for the big boys.

Wooley has freakish athleticism, which not only helps a team win, but also entertain. When you are playing in front of 5 figure crowds that is not totally irrelevant

Reflecting back Big O started out like gang busters and then kinda fizzled out. IMO he needed motivation and the last 10 games or so I’m thinking something happen. Agent in the ear? This will happen until the NCAA mandates a fix possibly one transfer in the 4 or 5 years at a school.

Sucks to lose solid players like that but his production wont be very difficult to replace. No point in getting in bidding wars with high major programs over players like that. Shouldn’t be too hard to find a D2 or juco guy that can give us 8 points and 5 rebounds a game.
