Hopefully Ritchie will realize that it is not practical to go with a 6 man rotation. Despite having extended rest coming in, we just got fatigued. WKU got 77 minutes off the bench to our 25 (22 from Peter). Now we go again in 2 days.

For the record, half of the teams in the conference will "blow" an opportunity for a 1-0 start.

Ritchie made it official in the post game that Ihnen is out for the year.
Half the teams in the conference will not blow a 16 point lead at home and go 8-16 from the FT line.

We should have seen this coming. FTs down the stretch will be a theme for this season.
I know the broadcast team was raving over Cleveland but he lost the game on his own in the 2nd. At least 5 boneheaded turnovers in the second half, didn’t box out on a FT that gave an extra possession and misses the front end of the most crucial 1&1 of the game. Dude is a liability down the stretch.

Lolz.

At least we consistently give up every year after non-conference play.

The whistles on drives to the lane were awful too. WKU James Harden’d their way back into the game with forced contact in the lane on vertical defenders.

I know…it’s crazy that happens.
It’s almost like playing the Rustburg School for the blind and Altavista Tech in the non-conference provides no value what so ever.

Even after 2 games, it’s very hard to predict who will finish in the top half of the league. Louisiana Tech has been the biggest disappointment so far. They must have an injury.

The rotation was slightly better Saturday night, but we're going to need some more from other players as the season progresses. I think Decker and Blair will need to have some minutes and I'd like to see Spell get in the game for a few minutes.

On another topic, does anyone know if Ihnen can get his year of eligibility back?

I believe the player needs to have played less than 25% of the season to qualify for a medical redshirt and he played more than that but there are no rules anymore so who knows.

It's actually 30%. I remember because Caleb Homesley barely qualified when he had his knee injury. Isaiah has participated in 11 games, which would put him over, but I'm not sure if NAIA or NCCAA games count. I suspect he only wants to play one more year regardless. He has been in college for a long time already (working on his second Masters now) and if he gets and stays healthy, he will likely have pro opportunities in Germany.

"Well, we should have seen this coming. Free throws down the stretch are like the plot twist in every sports drama. As for Cleveland, sure, he had a rough second half, but let's remember: are we here to win championships for Christ or just to win games? Maybe he was just trying to keep things interesting for the fans! 😄 After all, even the best players have their off moments. Let's cut him some slack and keep our eyes on the bigger picture!"

CUSA average NET ranking - 8th best conference in country

CUSA Kenpom conference ranking (based on how many teams finish above .500) - 9th best conference in country.

ASUN is 24th in both rankings. What a huge leap in conference competition. Impressive that we are having the success we are currently. Great job by all involved.

I saw this post elsewhere and it reminded me how much better we have it in CUSA. Sometimes I have to remind myself we were playing in glorified high school gyms against teams even the most hardcore fans aren’t familiar with only 2 years ago.

Surprise, surprise, surprise. The Knights are no longer spending big bucks to rent out freedom hall and play in front of 17,000 empty seats. I seem to remember having a back and forth with one of their delusional fans when they first moved up to D1. He thought playing in a "legendary" arena would bring in top tier recruits, and they would ultimately fill the place. I predicted they would be back playing in 1,200 seat Knight's Hall in 2 or 3 years.

Last year the top 10 leagues got multi bids, this year I believe only the top 7 conferences will have multi bids.

ACC is way down, SEC is way up. Winning the regular season literally means nothing. Sad, but it’s a fun tournament for fans.

Overall CUSA has been much better than ASUN. Hopeful we can continue to grow the league and program.

CUSA getting destroyed by the portal. UTEP has lost 4 starters. WKU lost 3 starters. MTSU lost their best player. KSU best player just entered portal today.

Liberty seems to be holding on for dear life at the moment.

Soon instead of March Maddness, we'll be calling it the B10, SEC showdown. NIT will be a better tournament for real college basketball fans.

It says something about the character aspect of our players on the roster that we have not been severely impacted by the portal. I know we lost a few last year to the portal, but I think most of those were the result of mutual conversations between staff and the players.

In this age of the portal, McKay's ability to find high-character players and the overall culture of the team may play into our favor at least for basketball.

I agree with this posts. The MBB at LU the assistant coaches have a pretty good job. Most places the assistance are trying to keep them out of jail and the news. LOL

Methany is returning, hopefully we can get Peter back same with Ihman.

Add in a long athletic guard and big from the portal then we’ll be a lot better next year.

The team can have all these good size players. However, if the approach to the game is the same as this year with the small guards playing more minutes on the floor than anyone else, what does it matter? The undersized guards cannot put hands on the shooter’s face (ie vs Oregon) then what does it matter. The team had sizes but they were not getting minutes to improve.

Today is the first I have heard that Ihnen (allegedly) needs another medical redshirt to return. Here is the announcement of his signing on the official Liberty site, stating he has 2 years of eligibility remaining.

https://libertyflames.com/news/2024/4/2 ... -to-roster

5 years at Minnesota.
2 medical redshirts
played 3 years, but one was the Covid year
2 years remaining

I have mixed feelings on Metheny. Hope we don't lose Decker over this.
Another year from Peter would be totally awesome.

Another LU Armchair coach! So what you’re saying is the length that set on the bench didn’t get equal opportunity to perform against the LU smaller guards every day in practice. These kids have just been in the gym since June of this year. Surely LU isn’t wasting money on HCRM salary. Another food for thought is LU just won CUSA regular season and tournament in arguably the hardest conference they’ve been in.

So they won CUSA. So what. Then they play a real basketball team and gets blown away by 29. Not even close. Not respectable game. Maybe someone like you is satisfied of just going to the tournament and get blown away. There some of us that wants to see the program go further and best quality teams in the power conferences. The small guards cannot do anything on defense. That is the name of the game. Why do they recruit those big players if they do not know if they have the potential to at least compete? Maybe that’s an error of the coaches.
