That was entertaining. The rednecks were drinking heavy and late. And they do NOT like their coach.
It seems whenever we beat a team that thinks they’re equal or better than us, firing their coach is a major topic on their fan forums. Losing to us makes folks more bitter for a variety of reasons. Honestly that may be part of the reason schools don’t want to schedule us. Not only is it a potential loss but a loss the fan base will not take well.
Could be. Several of them clearly still think of us as an FCS school, and stated as much.

Um, helloooooo? We went to the Fiesta Bowl!

They weren't happy with Houston prior to the game and most of them were expecting us to beat them. It's the same thing on App's message board (Yousef's Cabin), especially after Thursday night. Strange days when we are getting respect from the fans of these two programs. I didn't have time to dig, but wasn't Houston's name thrown out alot for our coaching searches? Was he the coach when we beat JMU at their place for the playoffs?

I actually did not go to the game for the start at 6 PM. My wife and two younger sons did, but they returned home around 9:15. My middle son was very disappointed, so when the game was about to resume, we headed out the door.

I would say that the stadium was about 25% full. The ECU crowd was LOUD though 17-0.

Does Williams stadium not actually hold 25k or are they only counting butts in seats? Its strange that all of our sellouts are reported as around 24k.

I stuck the whole thing out. I live an hour away and didn't have anything else to do. My nephew lives in Bedford and he left I guess about 9pm but came back after it started and brought two additional fans. (His teen-age daughter encouraged him to come back).

The student section was half-full through the reminder of the game. I sit in the last row up on the west side so couldn't see how many we had on that side. The students were definitely loud and the band, cheer squad, etc. helped with the game vibe.

What a night. Took a full day to recover, then some. For those of you that don't know, they open the indoor practice facility up during weather delays, which is great because there's some AC, plenty of room and shelter, and a place for the kids to play. There's also a TV, although DirecTV goes out during storms... That's how I knew it was getting late, because when the TV came back on, the UT vs. Oklahoma game was over and it was Charles Stanley :P

Me and a buddy made it back in after sending the kids home with the wives. For the first hour or so, I was thinking my decision to wait and stay was not going to be worth it. Other than some dumb penalties the defense continues to look the part. I've been really impressed with the play of Dexter Ricks Jr and A'khori Jones in particular. One guy that I am not very high on is Alex Oliver... he never seems to get his head turned around on deep balls and it drives me crazy, because that's the first thing they look for on PI calls. Hopefully Mo Williams and Hopkins get fully healthy soon.

The student side was a little lacking the first few minutes, but throughout the first half it filled back in a good amount. A lot of the baptist side went home. The funny thing is, it still sounded loud and it's because all of the dedicated fans (that actually make noise) stayed. Just imagine how much louder it could be if the 75% were like the 25% that stayed.

**** Correction/Rant ****

The UT-Oklahoma game is referred to as the Red River Shotout/Rivalry and is played in the Cotton Bowl Stadium in the fairgrounds during the Texas State Fair next month. The little backwoods school in Knoxville is called Tennessee and any suggestion that they are UT is as ridiculous as South Carolina claiming they are USC. Puh-lease.

**** Rant Complete ****

Thanks for the heads up about the IPF being open during the delay. I suspect that not many knew that was available. And standing in the concourses for over four hours would have been too much for just about anyone who is old enough to have their seat on the Baptist side.

Red River Shootout. Let's not water it down for the PC/woke crowd. And my apologies, I forgot we had a true Texan amongst us, else I wouldn't have let my laziness win out when I referred to the University of Tennessee as UT.

When my Longhorn wife was in school she called to order her class ring and said it was for UT. They sent her a mock-up of a Tennessee ring.

Tennessee was one of the institutions that gave Texas pause about being willing to be in the same conference with some of the less academically stellar schools of the SEC. It nearly led to them heading up to the B1G. But they overlooked their snooty tendencies for the money and renewed rivalies of the SEC.

No, it is obvious where I went to school. But I married a Texas Ex and I spent six seasons covering the Longhorns (John Mackovic & Mack Brown/Ricky Williams/Vince Young eras) ... so I have spent the past quarter century having them as my secondary team. With two Aggies currently on my payroll, I have been forced to add another school to my Saturday watching. And I still have one more at home and she is undecided at this stage. So yeah, I'm a Liberty alum with some Texan connections that I have gathered in the last 3+ decades.

You got your degree from Liberty University. In Lynchburg, VIRGINIA. An EAST COAST school. Nothing worthwhile happens east of Nashville. Just give it up.

We have 16k on campus. We have 124k spread across America online. LU may be Virginia-based, but we are a national school.

Online-only alums are curious at best when it comes to LU athletics. Heck, the very select few who have become passionate are probably the same ones we know here at FlameFans.

It’s the ones who spent time on campus who have the greater likelihood of becoming anything remotely close to passionate. And of those, the overwhelming majority since 1971 have settled in the eastern US.

So if you’re peddling a western conference will suddenly awaken a dormant fanbase, I’m not buying.

SEC has already declared the university of Tennessee as the true UT so you were correct. It makes sense considering Texas still belonged to Mexico when UT was founded.

Attendance and sellout are two different things. Sellout - means they sold all available ticket... Not everyone that bought tickets showed up. We could probably have more then 25,000 at a game, because students section can fit more butts in it, because students are standing and mashed together.

Haters gonna hate

And for the record, the University of Texas at Austin was established over a quarter century after the state joined the Union. And incidentally its founding father was a former congressman from Tennessee named ... Sam Houston.

And now you know the rest of the story. Good day.
