Everything about the portal is nasty. It has ruined college sports. Free agency has pretty much ruined professional sports. Very sad. Happy that I am not going to be around many more years. My guess is that if not changed dramatically, NCAA sports will be unwatchable within 5 years or less.

The NCAA definitely needs an overhaul that will them to be an actual governing body that can set clear and strict guidelines and control over the portal, NIL, pay/FCOA, coaching hires, and realignment. All things necessary, IMO, in order to preserve as much amateurism to D1 athletics as possible. Perhaps this is only possible if the B1G & SEC do break away or this mythical super league actually happens.

TJ Finley has played at LSU, Auburn, Texas State and now he's at Western Kentucky. That's 4, so far. Like Kaidon Salter, he's also on the Davey O'Brien Watch List for QBs.

Sadly I think real free agency with binding contracts will be the only thing that returns cfb back to a sense of normalcy. Oddly enough soccer style free agency would probably fit the best. Make 4 year contracts out of high school the standard and if bigger programs want to "buy" a player before the 4 years are up they'll have to pay the smaller school for the privilege and if the bigger school wants to release a player to open up a roster spot they'll have to buy that player out of their contract. There would still be a lot of player movement but at least players get some financial security while G5 schools could make a killing buying low and selling high on players which would hopefully help close the gap.

Reminds me of the Churchill line, “Capitalism is the worst form of government, except for all the rest.”

If/when the NCAA tries to regulate it that way again, they’ll get sued again. And, they will lose again. It’s impossible to overstate how impactful those lawsuits were that gave power to the S-A’s. It’s a messy system. But it’s the best we’ve got.

How can you reasonably eliminate all transfers? You can’t really mean to tell people they aren’t allowed to attend the college of their choice. Surely even someone like you can see the problems caused by eliminating freedom.

Even in capitalistic societies you need guidelines, laws, and regulations. Some will always do better than others for multiple different reasons. The NCAA is no different. Again, there needs to be rules that all athletes, coaches and schools in the NCAA have to abide by. There are simple changes that could provide more stability for all involved. NIL and realignment are obviously more tricky and technical, and I've heard many AD's call for national legislation to solve the issues. But it's painfully obvious that the biggest obstacle for a lot of the changes are the Power school/conference oligarchy.
