That was 20 years ago.
And Mark Warner's no longer Governor. Of course, Miyares could just threaten to sue the SEC or B1G...

Eventually, I think the B1G will take UVA, UNC, GT, and FSU and the SEC will take VT, NC State, WVU, and Miami.
I also think some political shenanigans will occur, but will be far less than what we saw in the 80's, 90's, and 00's.

It'd already be gone as we know it, if not for the grant of rights. It feels almost inevitable that the B1G and SEC will take the most valuable brands of the Big 12 (yes, there are still valuable schools there even after OU and UT#2 join the SEC) and ACC at some point in the future

WVU would be a great addition to The B1G. Especially if VT and UVA go. But the way things are shaking out they may not be too bad where they are at

It's mentioned that the PAC will merge, or make a deal with the MWC. Wonder if it will be the entire MWC, or the best teams from that conference. If it's the latter, will teams like Wyoming, San Jose St, New Mexico or Nevada make the cut? I guess market may help with Nevada or SJSU, but Wyoming?

Everything is so disjointed. When all this madness started over a decade ago, who would've thought this is where we'd be with the PAC 12 going kaput?

Not giving the PAC 2 full control would have been a travesty. Given how our justice system has been working recently, I'm kind of surprised by the decision. Is there a P5 and one of the other conferences is upgraded? Or is it just the P4 and everyone else? The whole "Power Conference" thing seems to be more of a media generated classification than anything else, which means they are in the driver's seat with all these changes.

I think everyone thought one of the conferences would fold eventually but considering the geography almost no one thought it would be the pac 12, most speculation was surrounding the big 12 or ACC.

The "power conference" name is media driven but those 5 conferences do get twice the voting power compared to every other conference so it is a formal arrangement. It'll be interesting to see if the pac 2 can find a way to keep their extra voting power. My assumption is they will lose it once the dust settles but will establish themselves as the clear top G5 close to the AACs former level and make life tougher for us to get a CFP slot. There's still a lot for them to work through though.

It's already coming together quicker than expected. OSU and WSU is forming a scheduling alliance with MWC with the intent to eventually merge. mwc teams will play 7 conference games and one of OSU or WSU over the next two years but OSU/WSU won't be eligible for the conference championship and games against them won't count toward MWC standings.

The agreement, expected to include a lucrative financial package for Mountain West members, is likely to feature a long-term commitment to the conference with an intent at a full merger beyond this two-year cycle. Part of the agreement includes a financial penalty that can be levied upon Oregon State and Washington State if the two programs attempt to acquire only a portion of MWC schools in the future.

I've also read that both school only have 3 non-conferences games lined up for 24 & 25, so unless they decide to play each other home and away, they'll be looking for another opponent. Might not be bad adds for Liberty.

Where have I heard this before?
Its been the drumbeat for several months now. First, UNC, FSU, and Clemson were leaving in September, then by Halloween, now by the end of 2023.

Swaim is a self-proclaimed realignmentologist who has a radio show and makes grand claims on the regular. Occassionally one or two winds up hitting and he can claim he knew it before everyone else. Of course, his hit rate is exceptionally low.

As for the ACC potentially copllapsing, there seems to be a growing belief that the ridiculous grant of rights that saved the league may now be in jeopardy. Allegedly lawyers have cracked the code or have enough leverage to keep it from being enforced. Of course this could all wind up playing out over the next decade if there is a challenge in court. But I don't see it getting to that point.

Frankly there is a pretty clear distinction between the haves and have nots in the ACC. Once the B1G & SEC picks off the half dozen or so remaining value adds, the rest may or may not be particularly attractive to the Big XII. Television execs will make those calls.

I didn't realize how far Tarleton state has come in such a short time. I'm firmly against CUSA expansion at least for the rest of the current tv deal but if they keep up what they are doing over the next 4-5 years maybe CUSA should consider them.

Tarleton is notorious for inflating attendance numbers and giving out free tickets to anyone with a pulse. Stephenville is in the middle of nowhere in West Texas. Yes, they are part of the A&M system. But so are a slew of other schools in the state. They are not a serious CUSA candidate in the next five years or so. Stephen F Austin, which just joined the UT system, would be in line in front of them for any western expansion opportunities. And frankly SFA isn't close to ready either.

The list of CUSA candidates from the FCS ranks is very short: Delaware, Missouri State and possibly Eastern Kentucky. That's it. There doesn't seem to be much of an appetite for football-only adds at this stage which would knock the Dakota States out of the conversation.

Among FBS schools, UMass remains the only legitimate candidate. If they could be paired with another eastern school like Delaware, we could see a bump up to 12 schools in the coming months. The difference in distributions would be inconsequentials for us. But might be what holds some of the tighter budgeted CUSA schools from expanding to 12.

Tarleton state is an hour drive from DFW , is an R2 school, has higher enrollment than Stephen f austin with massive growth while stephen f austin is stagnant at best , is already having more success in the same conference despite just moving up from d2 and even without inflated numbers are putting more butts in seats. I'm not in a rush to add anyone but if they continue to grow, perform well at the FCS level and upgrade facilities I would prefer to give them a look over a school like umass. It's adds like this that has put the sunbelt on a different trajectory than the AAC.
