I happen to think rejuvinate wasn't all that bad of a word, it may have been a jab but so what?

For goodness sakes, we outnumbered the VMI fans literally 20-1, yet we were no where near as loud until we had leads. And in a town of our size (with nothing better to do), to only have 2500 (on a good night) at a game is ridiculous.

We need a new coach with a crazy attitude who can get the students psyched and want to come to games (and not just fill the seats, but to have an impact and be loud).

Alexis might be a good fit, but right now I'm leaning towards outside personnel.

One word: Hanky. That hill was steeper than most and Dunton brought us back from that to semi-respectablity. My personal feeling is that, no disrepect to the guys, but our championship year was a fluke. Winthrop was down and Birmingham was ineligible. In the championship game, High Point played some of the worst ball I've ever seen and Larry and Dees played out of their minds. We got our one shining moment and then got mowed down by St. Joe's. I have a hard time giving Dunton credit for that tourney win but sadly for him I think it raised expectations around here beyond what he and the program were able to fulfill.
Hyperbole much? You pull the fluke card out for any coach in history that has only won something once. We were a very good team that year. We played a terrible game in the tourney and yet we got "mowed down" by the #1 see that went to the elite 8 by ..... 20 points. That's hardly a 1 vs 16 beatdown. Just give the man some freaking credit. It's not like we had Cletus from backwoods Alabama come in here and stumble his way to a championship.

The fact that anyone tries to give HANKY credit for anything is a complete joke. If that post was serious, i feel sorry for you. Gabe Martin, Ryan Manto, Larry Blair, David Dees etc weren't Hanky players....RD brought them and and they were the difference that year....Sarchet, Sneed, Turner weren't the difference even though people like to argue that, its just comical.

Dunton had some great success here. People think this is an opportunity to bash the guy and it isn't.

He orchestrated one of the biggest turn arounds in the NCAA his first year is town.
He beat Virginia as an interim head coach!
He signed the Big South leading scorer in Larry Blair! A guy that could've gone anywhere.

Now mind you, I was never a huge fan of Dunton. However, He did some good things for this program and the University. And he deserves some respect on the way out.

Zack Jones would get the most consideration on staff right now...JF loves him along with many others

This should go to show you, this is JB's horse to ride, JF is hands off...now dont get me wrong...things are still run through JF and he has final say...but that's no different then any other structure at any other university...yall dont believe me when I tell you that JF's hands are off from the day to day items like they were 3 years ago....but they are

And yes we're better than the CIA 8)

I still feel like crap...it's just a down day for LU athletics and in a couple sports

...this should be interesting as Rich and Larry actually had Borek on the day Mel was fired and the RD hiring was announced.

We've done a good job of keeping this discussion focused. But I want to warn everyone not to kick Coach Dunton while he is down. It serves no purpose but to expose the lack of character of the poster under these circumstances.

That said, after we get past the unplesantness of today I look forward to seeing where the program is headed. I would think both Alexis and Zack would be given consideration for the head job while Dominic is EXTEMELY valuable right now as an assistant for very obvious reasons no matter who is the head man.

I agree that it is good to see an AD with firm convictions even if he we don't always agree with his decisions. I'm anxious to hear more from Barber as the day progresses.

Jeez, Rocket. Way to misread. I was giving RD much-deserved credit for bringing us out of the Hanky Dark Ages and that was no small feat. But, yes, I believe that our tourney win in '04 was a fluke as evidenced by the fact that we never again even came close to making some noise in the tourney. And, yes, we got mowed down by St. Joe's. They "only" won by 20 but, if memory serves, they led by 20 for most of the game. To me, it's obvious, that Dunton was never the guy who could take us further than where we are right now and, by no means am I trying to kick Dunton while he's down. That's been done enough on this board in the last 3 months. I just don't think he should have to take shots on the way out the door from the guy who singlehandedly hired him five years ago.

does anyone else think the part about "RD has taken us as far as he can take us" line was a little much for someone who was just fired? I mean taken us as far as he could have taken us...he COULD have taken us to another title, not losing out in the first round. I know he didnt and I am not saying I disagree with the decision, I just would have left the cut a little more clean. Even if you think that he has taken us as far as he could have saying it only does more harm than good.

Even the haters havent taken it to this level on the board! I wouldnt have expected the worst comment of the day to come from our AD!

*The comment wasnt awful, but the haters really have done a good job today....so that's more of a testament to them rather than fussing at JB

Either Jeff needs to work on his PR or it really was a knee-jerk reaction to the shocking VMI loss.

I mean its his first time doing this at LU so there is some grace there...but if it was my first time I would have wanted to say to little rather than say to much...I'm thinking the N&A article might be a little different...who knows

Sometimes bad new is delivered better quickly and clearly, better than getting beat to death with a spoon. People can and will read a lot of things into the comments made by the administration, but I don't think they were out of line. Overall, handled as good as these things get handled.

Just an FYI for you. Yes, the article in the paper will be different. It will have reaction from Dunton and some players to go with Barber's comments.

And for those calling BS on the whole "if they went to the tournament thing," in 2002, Montana was a below-.500 team in the regular season and made a surprise run to win the Big Sky tournament. Don Holst was canned anyway. So, yes, there's some precedent here. Hampton's coach resigned last year after going to the NCAAs.

Yeah...I still would have quick with a 2 sentence statement and then have something ready to be released for tomorrow. It was still handled pretty good, it's just got a few people up here scratching their heads...wondering why that line was in there. Again, I just want to see the article for tomorrow because I doubt a few of these things will be seen...but whatever what the heck do I know.

as you like to say...read carefully, i never said they were...but people were throwing assistants names out there who dont stand a chance compared to another on staff, so i just wanted that to be clear. Are the odds with him...nah, but more so than the other assistants.
