With BYU no longer independent, it kills the possibility of a yearly game with them.

It turns out having everyone in your conference lose half their games for an extra week while the SEC is playing FCS schools doesn't actually help your teams get into the CFP like some conferences thought it would.

They have always gone P5 heavy in scheduling and now that part of their schedule is good to go. It is is clear that Ian built up some good will with them over the past few years. I suspect that we will be working togethe rfor years to come.

If so, great for LU Independent scheduling options if that happens.LUGrad2000 wrote: ↑September 5th, 2021, 8:33 am With BYU no longer independent, it kills the possibility of a yearly game with them.I get a strong feeling the big 12 is dropping down to 8 conference games along with the Pac 12 and big ten. The big 12 specifically will need the 12 extra non conference games to prove they are still a power conference.Ill flame wrote: ↑September 5th, 2021, 1:14 pmA little confused on what you are saying. Ill flame wrote: ↑September 5th, 2021, 11:53 pmGot it, I thought that was what you were saying. Big 12 - makes sense when they go to 12. Big 10, PAC 12 will be up to the tv deal. If they commit to playing high quality cross over games then it will happen, if they opt to just pad winning records against lesser foe, tv $ won’t be as high ( but most probably get an extra home game - a benefit for USC but not Washington St types ) BYU - I am with you, we aren’t a geographical fit and they have plenty of options closer to home to fill their non con.tyndal23 wrote: ↑September 5th, 2021, 8:58 pmBig 12, Pac 12 and B1G all play an extra conference game which guarantees the bottom half of the conference gets an extra loss which makes the whole conference look worse. If BYU only has 3 non conference games to work with it would make it very difficult for us to get on the schedule. 1 game would likely be another P5, 1 game will be Boise St and the last game would likely be an FCS. If the Big 12 goes to 4 non conference games that will open up another opportunity to get us on the schedule occasionally. This is what I was alluding too.
Also if those 3 conferences drop to 8 conference games that would open up 38 more opportunities every year for Liberty to add some P5 games.
Sly Fox wrote: ↑September 6th, 2021, 6:03 pm The timeline is now coming into focus:Thanks for the info. The big 12 is adding 3 AAC teams which helps our odds. I agree that UAB should be one of them but rice would be a liability at football and basketball.
This is obviously based on the expectation the Horns & Sooners are going to be leaving before the end of the next contract. I love how they leave the door open for future expansion as unlikely as that may be in the near term. That fear could drive the AAC to take up to four teams which increasing our chances significantly.
This means that we are just two years away from the openings in the AAC. I remain convinced that it will likely be UAB & Rice being selected. But anything is possible in this wacky scramble.
It also means our home game with BYU next season should be secure.

BYU proved the “controversial religious” school meme not an issue with Big 12. Being the 16th team in in 2025 or so with a big cash offer to join isn’t insanity. Might be prudent to stay Indie and in ASun until 2025.What's stopping us from joining the AAC and then leaving that to join the Big 12? It's not like we're hurting for cash and being in the AAC should only help us in the meantime.

A candidate interviewed "just to meet certain demographic quotas". He had such a good interview, that he got the job, to the surprise of everyone.

Liberty claims a spot:My only issue with proposals like this is that some schools aren't in certain conferences for a reason. I agree that schools and conferences can and should work together to reduce travel costs and increase fan interest through regional rivalries but the solution can't be dictated from the top down.
