I don't post much, but I read nearly every day. Unfortunately, things are starting to sound a lot like many Deacon's meetings that I have attended where everyone finds fault with anything that is not their idea and those in power are all corrupt or ignorant. Kind of like a Dad in a Disney movie. There is a reason that there are 15 Baptist Churches in most cities of any size. Someone gives a job to someone they can trust and it's automatically "cronyism", someone doesn't like the way someone handles a situation and everyone has to to fired. The shortcomings of Jerry Jr are well documented and have been repeated ad nauseam. He's been dealt with, and rightly so. Pray for him and move on. Some here seem to want to magnify the damage he did to the reputation of the school and dig up any other trash they can find under the guise of "everyone needs to go so we can "fix it". I have yet to hear of the sinless, perfect people that they want to put in charge. I'm sure none of these "Popes" would have hired Coach Freeze or Ian if they had a say.
On the issue of faculty, we seem to hate tenure when professors at secular schools spout stupid stuff, but demand it at LU. Why should anyone have tenure? Do your job like anyone else outside of academe and you'll be fine. Perform or move on. Start spouting stuff contrary to company policy or doctrine or embarrass superiors and you get the boot like anyone else. That's not denigrating the faculty, that's just good policy. Don't like it, start your own school, or start your own business, or start your own Church like many self righteous Church members do. I personally don't side with the "LU as a distinctly Christian University is done" crowd. I have met too many students, staff and athletes that are not perfect, but they still try to continue the sanctification process that many on this board seem to have attained. I'm in this crowd. Hope it's ok to be in the Flames Club and buy season tickets. For months and months I've heard the "You don't know anything, you're on the outside" argument, but I'm here to tell you that there are enough factions and principalities trying to destroy all that is going on that is good on that mountain and the constant salivating over posting the warts and shortcomings on a daily basis from supposed "supporters" is disgusting and counter productive. I can handle all the customers in my business questioning the LU stuff hanging in my store and the "what's going on up there", but it sucks to hear it constantly from those who claim to be fans. Excuse me if I don't wade through the "irrelevant stuff " to get to the juicy stuff about the board on this podcast. I'm going to try to pray for them and be a little more positive.
