BYU/CCU is pretty huge (mainly because of BYU) so I wouldn't be surprised if they got a better timeslot.

Good for CCU.

But I'm extremely bummed out.

Yeah, super bummed.

Bummed either way - Bummed if LU plays the game with a sub-par team that doesn't represent the quality of the season LU has had. Bummed if LU has to step aside.

I'd probably be more upset watching a neutered LU be pushed onto the national stage. If we do get passed over, I hope LU was in on the dealings and gets a 12/19 game with BYU out of it. I'm much better with that than if CC and BYU were working on this without any LU involvement. I'm all for LU helping BYU - its a relationship that we want to be fostered.

I know our game has been scheduled for a long time and has every right to be played. However, that wont be the national narrative if LU plays with a COVID-riddled team. The national narrative will be that LU prevented CC/BYU from happening. And that LU isn't taking COVID or health protocols or science seriously. If LU is part of the solution - letting BYU play now, we play BYU later - that could go a long way for the school on the national stage.

Bummed though.

It hurts for us. Maybe we can get a game against Marshall on the 19th or something like that.

But it is better for LU to drop out with the covid issues. The BYU/Coastal game will be huge. It's the right thing to step aside. If the roles were reversed, I think Coastal would have done the same.

Kindof reminds me of how when the Big East broke up...VA Tech was looking for a conference home. As much as UVA fans play up that rivalry...it was UVA's president that helped get Tech unto the ACC. They did it for the good of the state. As much as the LU/Coastal game is a rivalry...sometimes you've got to do what is best for everyone...not just your own team. It's really frustrating, though.

Liberty is doing everything in the best way possible in this situation. It's indicative of how Ian McCaw runs that department and is a great representation of our school.

1. We were open with Coastal about covid issues as early as last week. That allowed them to begin to make backup plans.

2. We've helped BYU in case we can't play. They're going to be able to slide into our hotel rooms and have the entire plans for the trip laid out for them making it simple for them to step in.

3. We've helped facilitate the biggest game and moment in program history for Coastal.

4. We've helped ESPN in both ratings and logistics.

We have been a great partner to everyone involved in this. Not only will it help us with those relationships in the future, but it was the right thing to do. We have a moral obligation as the leading Christian athletic department in the country to do exactly what we've done, and it makes me proud to see how our administration has taken that calling to heart.

Why does that commit not surprise me 🤣
I get the joke but BYU is a known brand and is ranked 13th in the nation and are without a doubt a bigger draw than either Coastal or Liberty. It is huge for Coastal and I don't even think it is arguable at this point.

BYU wanted another game and they get a quality opponent.

We were transparent about things and helped Coastal and BYU so one would hope that since we scratched their back they would return the favor down the road.

OK - Here is my proposal....

Let CCU get beat pretty good by BYU. Then let CCU when their Championship. Then CCU backs out of Bowl commitment Sun Belt already has and agrees to play Liberty in a new Bowl... That Bowl game would attract a bigger crowd then them and /or us playing some inferior D1 School.

Shoot holes in it...

It actually could benefit us greatly.

If the rumors shake out, and BYU comes to Lynchburg on 12/19 fresh off a win against a top-15 team, there isn't a single more exciting game on the schedule that week than BYU/Liberty. ND currently has an open schedule; but the next "profile" game is Miami/GT. Potentially, BYU/Liberty could be a national game in Lynchburg.
