Count me in as well. I'm just looking for God to turn the place around. Hopefully they let him do it!

For what it is worth in 1971, I am mexican american could date anyone, no matter the race. Of course there were no single black students on campus. As a matter of fact I never saw a black student, even the married ones they said attended. Only blacks I ever saw on campus were staff workers.

That's an interesting point.

Another interesting point is that they allowed Asian and Hispanic Americans to attend before they allowed Black Americans in, and yet they continue to maintain that they hold no special animosity toward the black man.

I have to wonder, how many single black men actually attend there ?

BJ's underlying fear seems obvious to me.

The fourth Jones is actually named Stephen who appears to be moderate, judging by BJ standards. After Bob-3 passes, Stephen takes over. Perhaps, he'll bring this whole mess into accountability someday.

Again, no disrespect to some of the fine people who attended there:

Billy Graham
Asa Hutchenson
Tim LaHaye
Jack Van Impe
Denzel Washington

I woke up this morning remember something about BJU. I wonder if that would be considered a nightmare. Anyway for those who complain about LU's chapel, consider this. Once you entered chapel no students were allowed to talk, also no one could chew gum, all these were demerit offenses. Also you would be written up if you didn't attend chapel, again punishable by demerits.
You ask how would they know if you attended or didn't attend. Easy, you had an assigned seat for chapel thru the semester. If you missed you had to have a good excuses, illness or working and they would investigate to see if it was true, like call your boss or the school nurse, etc.

Liberty tried to do this when I was in school in the mid 90's (mandatory attendance that is). I'm guessing it was about 1995-1996ish. Each dorm had an assigned seating section and the RA's would take attendance. I think it lasted only that year, as the RA's were getting tired of having to make sure you were present. Plus ministry chapel always scattered people on Fridays. It kinda sucked not being able to sit with your friends from other dorms.

Ah, my RA's probably didn't care. I don't remember checking in with them past that year. Two years later I moved into the Senior dorms and my RA didn't even check at curfew. It must be much tougher now with all those kids packed into the Vines!

I do remember them trying to get commuters to check in for convocation one year (my first year off campus). That was pretty comical!! I think it lasted a couple of weeks and was canceled (or not enforced) after they realized 75%+ of the commuters were not going to show up no matter what.

IMHO that mentality needs to wane. To me, it seems reasonable to go to a percentage attendance by academic year:

Freshman: 90%

Sophomore: 75%

Junior: 60%

Senior: 50%

*Convo according to its definition is a beneficial thing and could be very interesting (even for the general public) as long as they actually consistently bring in a balance of marquee speakers from across the spectrum of academic disciplines and not just have preachers, ministers and missionaries speak at 80% of them (as it was back in my LU day.) I also still advocate utilizing one of the convo hours for dorm hall meetings, which would eliminate the need to hold them on Thursday nights IMO.

Bob Jones reminds me of the Geico Commercials. If BJU did a commercial it would be "so easy, a black man could do it." I know there are good people at BJU and like I said, 90% or more of my teachers graduated from there from 3rd grade through 12. However, their racial views are tough for me to support to say the least.

convo is alright sometimes, but overall its a waste of time....the main reason i wanted off campus was because of convo...i understand wanting to keep that Christian feel of things...you can still have campus church..i can imagine it will get to that sooner or later....
