I am not sure I trust any Administration. I just go with their tendencies. Trump is an optimist. He will always want to put the best face on things. I think that’s a good thing, especially now. “Anonymous Sources” are not the Deepthroat of old. Their track record is always to put a negative spin on things. So given the choice I’ll go with optimism. Because if Trump showed the slightest signs of weakness.....Katie bar the door.

Fair enough.

Like I said, I've been around DC long enough to not trust anything.

Since this is the election thread and not the Trump thread. Any theories on how this will effect the election one way or another?

My county has received my ballot so nothing will change for me. Just curious if this will change anything for anybody on the fence.

I'm guessing the election is where this optimism comes from.

I thought this was a GREAT idea. He can take us through his journey. That would score Yuge points and be nearly impossible to criticize. Have his speech writers spend all day then at say 8 pm the next couple of nights read it online. Noting long. 10-15 minutes. Fill it with hope optimism maybe a little of whatever “struggle’ he’s going through. It would be a game changer. Not sure Team Biden could have a response

That would probably have to wait until he is back in the White House. I'm not sure videos from inside Walter Reed would be a good thing to put out to the public.

Side note, I just realized that memo you posted misspelled Regeneron. Either he didn't write it since it isn't actually signed like his previous memos or it was was hand written by the doctor and then transcribed by staffers. Still kind of funny.

Probably misspelled it. You’d be surprised.

I’d say: entertainment television.

It was nice to see the civility, but both candidates avoided the most important questions and no one really said anything.

Pence and Trump need to make things clearer for people. The deep state is made up of big business, big government (establishment) and the mainstream media, they are inbred. They want open borders and a flow of low wage labor. They want manufacturing supply chains located in countries with little to no environmental regulations, cheap communist labor, sometimes provided by children or even slaves. Them caring about about urban minorities "BL's" is a smokescreen. Trump was elected by "the people" to address such issues. Big business, big government (establishment) and the mainstream media started a coup against him as soon as he won the republican nomination. Will the "the people" step up in this election, I don't know. The group with the most to gain, black americans. Basically it's in their hands. If 90% of them vote against Trump it's back to status quo. :(

I thought Pence did a fantastic job last night. Much better than Harris and certainly better than his Boss. When his critics can only point to a rogue fly as a talking point then you know he did a great job
But the question EVERYONE has avoided asking is the Primary one for a VP. Do you feel confident with the VP taking over if something happens to POTUS? I absolutely do with Pence (can he be the top of the ticket). I absolutely do NOT with Harris.

I’d disagree on criticisms of Biden. He had a softball question of would he like Indiana to ban abortions if Roe was overturned and didn’t answer it. That was a giant miss.

Harris not answering the packing the court is question was a huge miss too.

There are criticisms of both to be made, depending on who your candidate is. They both played well to their bases.

She did ask that question directly to both, neither answered it. I can’t blame them, I think they’re trying to avoid saying anything that casts doubt on the health of their running mates.

Also, I can’t believe he didn’t feel that fly. Or he’s got incredible self-control to not swat at it. I felt like Harris was looking at it, but it may have been the forced perspective from the split screen format.

Harris didn’t answer the abortion question either. At least Pence planted his flag and said he was unapologetically Pro Life.

Yes the question was asked and I agree with reasons for not answering it. My point was as I’m sitting there watching these two Would I Feel comfortable if they had to take over the responsibilities of President. With Pence it was an unequivocal yes. I can see him in a room full of world leaders doing his thing for America. With Harris? Absolutely not.

She answered it in the same way Pence did. She said something like “I’ll always support a woman’s right to choose what happens to her body.”

Both answered with rhetoric without really pinning down a position on it.

I didn't expect Harris to answer the question. She said she supported the right for a woman to choose which is the standard answer for Democrats.

I'm admittedly harder on Pence here because the question he got was directly in line with why the majority of Christians are willing to choke down voting for Trump - they believe he is most likely to overturn Roe and begin to outlaw abortions. Pence was asked directly if he wanted to see a ban on abortions. He first completely avoided the question and then circled back and said he was pro-life but did not say if he supported banning abortions.

This is an example of why I've come to believe the abortion issue is a political red herring used by the Republican Party in national politics. They know it's the single biggest thing holding the evangelical base to their party, so they continuously say things about being pro-life, but consistently only take incremental baby steps in actually doing stuff about it.

  • Only one of the five conservative Justices on the Supreme Court (Thomas) has recently said Roe or Casey were bad law. The others just had an opportunity to go against Casey in a decision and didn't do it.
  • There hasn't been major change from the Court in abortion law since 1992.
  • Even though Souter, Kennedy, and O'Connor all criticized Roe before they joined the court, each one of them joined in the majority on abortion decisions while they were on the Court.

Now, with a 6-3 majority looming and a real opportunity to overturn Roe, Pence wouldn't go on record saying he wanted the state he governed in the past to outlaw abortion if given the opportunity.

Abortion is a big deal, and while I'm not a single issue voter, there are a lot who are. I wish those Christian voters wouldn't let Pence off the hook on this one. We need to hold our officials accountable and criticize them when they deserve it, even while still voting for them.

I was thinking about the debates and the questions ask. We need to get the media bias out by letting each candidate submit a dozen questions for the other. Keep the questions secure until they are ask.

If there is a good chance row might be overturn the left goes to the streets and starts rioting. Best to the wait till it happens then deal with the outburst.

This would be fascinating to watch, but probably not at all substantive. I can see questions like "why are you so stupid?" and "do you want to arm wrestle?" being submitted.

I don't think it would be that impactful, tbh. Overturning Roe doesn't outlaw abortion, it just kicks it back down to the states. The left-leaning states would still have the same access to abortion that they do now.

That's absolutely correct. It's estimated overturning Roe will only result in a 12% reduction in the abortion rate.
