I can certainly blame him for bringing him on his radio program after saying that crap... and blaming the "his followers for people misunderstanding him". I guess he does get points for not inviting Milo's husband on the show.

Not trying to trigger anyone. Perhaps, the guy genuinely cares and doesn't want to see an individual totally destroyed over something said or done.

Maybe...but then he shouldn't give the guy cover over the perverted things he said. Maybe in a year or two he can have Jr on and blame Jr's sins on you know, "self-righteous people".

We've come along way from the Moral Majority's morals.

There seems to be some things starting to leak regarding Trey. Here's a recent comment from Reddit:
On the second day I met lll, he, I, and a mutual friend were in Trey's jeep and drove to one of Trey's old high school buddy's house near Bedford, who sold us some Devil's Lettuce.

We were listening to rush limbaugh (surprise, surprise) on the radio. Ask anyone who knows Trey, he loves his talk radio.

Obama is about halfway through his first term and is the subject at hand over the radio, and its "N" this and "N" that from Trey, I was shocked & appalled. Mind you; second time I meet the guy.

Such hate in his heart.

LU needs him as acting president like it needs to hire Ergun Caner.

Think about all the decent men who left after Senior died; Johnny Moore, D. Carson in 2011, Charles Billingsly (for a time), Clayton King, David whats-his-face who used to lead the main P&W band for convo.

They saw the sinking ship, and they wanted off before it went down.

First, that list of decent people is suspect at best but I see where this guy is coming from.

I don't know anything about Trey of today but I know college Trey wasn't the most liked guy in the world. I know how much i have changed since I was a student so I hope he has as well. With that said, i will continue to harp on the need for an independent investigation. This team needs to look especially close at family members. If it is found that he is as toxic just as his father, he needs to go.

I have no idea if the BoT is even listening to the alumni who are pushing for an independent investigation but I have my doubts.

I repeat my recommendation. Anyone with the last name of Nasser and Falwell along with the entire BoT should be gone.

Don't get me wrong. I agree completely but they should be removed after a truly independent investigation is completed. If one is conducted then I'd be shocked if many people in leadership remain.

I think the BoT should graciously step down after a new Honcho is in charge
I wouldn’t be opposed to the others doing that before hand. I mean how effective can they be at this point?

I’m like you. I’m trying to expect better from “Leadership”. The difference is I know I’ll be disappointed :D

So the BoT works through a search committee to appoint a new president, the steps down. Doesn’t that create the same power vacuum and lack of accountability that precipitated the most recent issues?

If they step down, what’s next? If Next is appointing a new BoT, whose responsibility is that?

I don't think there will be a mass exodus of BoT. I think they will stay, and appoint a new President. I am not sure an investigation is needed.
A couple areas need tweaking, but no need to rebuild the University

If the BoT selects someone then steps down it will eliminate the possibility of conflict of interest. Normally not a concern but with the deep rooted nepotism and other issues it is a problem at LU.
There are several possibilities of reforming a new BoT. I’m not going to list them all. I’m not saying step down all at once (although that’s an option) maybe one or two at a time. It might be easier to find quality replacements.

You also said Jr would be back in 6 months tops so...

How in the world could you not think an investigation is needed with how the money is flowing to certain people? Maybe it is all on the up and up but with all that has come out recently, an investigation should be wanted.

I mean this as kindly as possible @ballcoach15, do you have a close friend who benefits from the current infrastructure so you are protecting them? Because nothing else makes much sense to me.

We should want things to be cleaned up. Not take the path of least resistance. That is how we got here to begin with.

Trey needs to go, too young, inexperienced and let's no fool ourselves, he is only there because of his last name. For optics alone, it doesn't make sense for the entire BOT's to resign. There are some there, who knew about Jr's problems and said nothing. (they should go ,like yesterday including Nasser). There are also some there who genuinely had no idea.
I believe a more deliberate approach is better for the university. Also, many of these BOT's are pretty old and attrition will occur naturally. Unless they have done something overtly wrong, illegal, let them continue on for a while.
I also believe that a 100% formal investigation should be initiated and any fallout from that should be taken care of with the upmost transparency.
There should also be a formal nepotism policy and procedure put in place, to limit or eliminate these virtual no-show jobs for anyone in leadership.

I have ALWAYS thought he got too much credit for being a good businessman. I am not saying he was bad, but I believe he did benefit significantly, from the timing of certain things that he couldn't/didn't control.
I agree with these takes, but would add an additional wrinkle: I don't think Jr. got entirely lucky with online. I think he exploited it by giving the whole thing rock bottom standards, and I would argue that speaks further to his lack of ethics.

The timing was fortunate, but if you don't care about student outcomes or academic standards the "business" of a university isn't that hard.
I’ve never thought of that perspective, but it could well be true. LUO sprung out of what was LUSLL, and Jerry had nothing to do with that. I’ve always considered him to be a person who excels by exploitation, and the model was certainly ripe for that. Maybe he got out while the getting out is good. The current health problem is forcing states to be unwilling competitors, so now the private providers might find that they have to deliver on a playing field that means less revenue per student.
Having worked at LUO for 11 years (2007-2018) holding various management positions across several departments, I can attest to this. When I started in 2007, LUO had just ended the 06-07 year by eclipsing 18,000 students online. The end of the 07-08, it bumped to 25,000. So similar to a football coach, Jerry Jr. already had the previous years work and "recruits" in place to hit 25,000, due to Jerry Sr. What happened after was in large part due to the momentum that Jerry Sr. allowed but Jr did put the foot on the pedal to accelerate it at ludicrous speed. For the record, it went 35k by June 09, 50k by June 10, 60k by June 11, 80k by June 12, and so on. It's mind boggling to look at the growth through this lens.... we went from 18k students to 80k students in 5 years.

thepostman wrote: August 30th, 2020, 9:44 am My memory might be foggy but I believe the transition plan that Sr developed to be carried out in case of an unexpected death stated Jr would take over his duties. It was approved by the board and I feel like they all thought they'd have more time.

But I may be remembering wrong.

Not that you don't make good points that I agree with.
It seems there was alot of that presumption by the board...Sr would have more time... we'd never have to pay 8 mil to Jr in severance.... that whole "you know what happens when you assume" statement is playing out in real time with the LU BoT.

But if they are only “tweaks” why does it matter who in or isn’t on campus? If it was a major shake up then sure, I get that. But you’ve already called Nasser out by name and that’s a huge move you want made. It seems there’s a certain lack of courage and consistency in your statements

I just pulled up the list of BoT. (as has been posted somewhere on here, there's a lot of them.) All have terms that expire within the next 2 years. November seems to be the magic month for terms to expire. There's some really good people on there, thus no need to "clean house".
( I meet a couple of them earlier this year, while on a campus visit.)

When are you going to admit that TF is the reason you don't want there to be a huge change over? I would imagine anybody with the Falwell last name is a bit on edge but that is no reason not to do an investigation.

Maybe your personal relationships are clouding your judgement. Just admit that and I think we could all understand that.

But, protecting people due to personal relationships is what has gotten us here.
