Is the board qualified to be investigating anything? A third party has to be involved or its all a show. They could find some damning things that inadvertently implicates them as well. Then what? I'd say it would never see thr light of day, obviously. The only decent investigation answers to neither Jerry nor the board. But that's only if you actually want to be upfront and honest. .. which is a big ask I guess. Certainly not something folks from a church organization environment would do, sadly

Typically 3rd parties are brought in for stuff like this for organizations the size of LU and that may be part of why so much time is passing before a decision is made. Rumors are swirling on campus about so many things that it is hard to sift through what is and isn't true.

I'm sorry but Jerry throwing his wife under the bus to try to save grace is pathetic. It was the worst kept secret that they had a "friendly affair" with the pool boy. It's also the worst kept secret that they like playing around.

Also let's not forget he's lied before about the pool boy before which they settled out of court.

Jr. may be dealing with depression, but him suggesting he is a victim here....is that the takeaway? If so, that is laughable. He alludes in the article to "doing what is best for the University"? While he has done some great things....the drive for power has served his primary motivation, with the interest of LU being a distant second at best. I would even go so far as to say some of the benefits realized by LU as the result of his decisions, were collateral to those decisions serving his own interest first. I don't know all the dynamics of his personal challenges, but if this is what he is going with as the primary catalyst for his behaviors.....I'm sorry, but he has no personal accountability whatsoever, and has learned absolutely nothing from all of this.

It is a face saving move and though I hope he gets the help he needs, it doesn't change my opinion that he has no business running the school. If he gets help then he can come back as a consultant. There’s a difference between what you know and what you can prove. Rumors are just that, and yeah they’ve been flying around about the pool boy and others. It changes the game because now the BoT has a more Public reason to keep him away. I don’t necessarily disagree with your takeaways from the article. My takeaway is there’s more here and he’s trying to get out in front of it.

A couple things on the front end:

1) I believe the depression piece. He isolated himself from pretty much any type of positive accountability and likely had to work through this stuff on his own. I’m glad he’s getting help for that. Mental health and depression shouldn’t have the stigma it does inside Christian circles.

2) While I believe there’s more to the story than just Becki having an affair, good on them for not getting a divorce. Hopefully they can continue to work things out and can develop a Godly marriage together.

That said, this feels straight out of the church scandal playbook. The first step is to admit to a problem that seems serious but isn’t the real problem and talk about getting help. Then you go away for a while only to discover a new love of Jesus through that help that gives you new perspective and deeper understanding. That’s step two. Finally, you commit to being different knowing no one will hold you to that because you played the Jesus card.

While I truly hope he gets whatever help he needs, and while I’m praying he does develop a new and deeper relationship with Jesus, this story just shows he has disqualified himself from being the leader of Liberty University.

Even if he goes through all the counseling he needs and does all the things on the checklist, putting him back in that position would be irresponsible because it would be putting him back in the same situation that caused the issues. If the Board cares about Jerry or cares about the school at all, they can’t do that.

I'm not trying to make light of what I am sure is his very real depression because I don't doubt that and hope he is getting help. I just don't like him outing his wife like this. It just feels gross.

I don't see it as an acceptable reason to call parents dummies or start childish twitter wars with governors or talk smack about pastors or demean students or use Liberty resources as his personal wealth or take photos with your pants down or say you don't feel any responsibility for the spiritual direction of the school or....

No shot at the President here. I will be voting for him on 11/3.

I was alluding to the stories of Cohen helping JFJR with the blackmail photos in return for an endorsement. I guess we will have to wait and see if Cohen makes that claim, and whether it is credible or not.

The story makes no sense. You're telling me that you meet a hotel employee during a week long stay and decide to enter into a substantial business deal with them? Who does that? There is so much more to the story and I'm assuming it'll start leaking out soon. Jerry is trying to get ahead of the damaging info that's coming.
