I generally have kept my thoughts out of a discussion like this because JFJR was someone who became a very good friend and was largely instrumental in my being able to return semester after semester in my time as a student on the mountain (being an undergrad for seven years can really limit your financial aid options after a while). Reading the comments from people on here as well as the news reports brought me a level of pain I really hadn't experienced much when it comes to a personal relationship with someone. No I didn't get to do the things that Jon and many others got to do, but I always enjoyed getting to slip backstage after some convos and get to meet some amazing people (like Mike Huckabee, Jack Graham, Tim LaHaye and Cal Thomas). Getting to make multiple trips up to the chancellor's suite (though it didn't much help my fear of heights)...All I can say is I hope very much that he does what he needs to do and gets himself straightened out and Id love to come back to the mountain and get to fellowship with him and his growing family (Caroline is engaged...wow I feel old just thinking about that)

There are scores of details that need to emerge before I can get an accurate assessment of LU moving forward.

I hope they don't put Jonathan in that awful position.
Elmer is in no condition to take on the role. Gutierrez makes some sense. Dave Brat would be fine.

I hadn't thought of Turner but it is not a crazy idea. Franklin Graham has a ton on his plate right now. But again he is the type of leader that would make sense. Whoever fills the temporary vacancy needs to be perceived as above reproach spiritually. If it could be a person of color even better. A Francis Chan or Tony Evans would be a powerful statement as well.

This is nothing against you Sly, but isn't that term no different than colored people used to demonized a specific group of people in the Jim Crow era? It's strange that this is used by the same party that loved demonizing and threathening others who are the scapegoats? Just a thought, back on the Jr. situation.

@LUAlum1215 brought up Dr McFarland offline and I agree In addition to real academic credentials being a POC would make a major statement.

This may ruffle a few feathers around here but while I am glad to see that the board is taking action and that JFJR accepted their recommendation, Ive been reading some of the comments and posts about it on social media and the seeming glee that some are showing at this development may not bother me on the same level but bothers me all the same. Yes it is fair to be disappointed in his actions...yes it is fair to want to see significant change and to be pleased that that change has come to pass...but at the end of the day he IS a human being just like we all are and he is fallen just as we all are. This isn't the time to dance on anyone's proverbial grave (I did use that word correctly right Cider?) in this situation. Our job is to be pleased that this action has been taken, but now we need to be on our knees praying for him and his family as he works through this as well as for this university as they navigate this change as well

I doubt he would leave his post as HUD secretary before the election.
Because all current Trump cabinet members are having so much fun ? Jr makes 5 times what Carson gets paid and he already pushed through the major changes in HUD - I don’t see him staying there for 2nd term. I think he would be a brilliant choice.

I'm glad the Board finally made this decision. I will be praying for Jerry and his family, as well as the hope that he will return a better person and have a closer walk with God in his decision making.

This happens to people once they step in s high position. The bottom expected them to do things they feel is tight(at times those things can be reasonable), and one thing that not like will turn into a negative reaction. We have that reaction with Jr (which was needed mostly for his sake), but will still have backlash from people who never liked Liberty in the first place moving forward.

So do I, , and presidents who are re-elected generally need to replace a good portion of their cabinet for their second term. I just don't see him leaving til the election, but it certainly is possible.

Imagine though; I see our academics boosting with credidation and maybe that graduate campus can come into fruition. I see the medical school expanded and given funds for research. Would be beneficial for the area.

If he would accept it (he's got his hands full with what he's doing now) I would love to see Franklin Graham as interim President. If a permanent change is made, there is someone else I think would be great.
Gross. We don’t need a B-rate version of Jerry.

No more politicians. We need a spiritual person in charge . We need to repair our reputation as a Christian school. Adding some one like Brat or Carson just rehashes that we’re a conservative school, not Christian.

Is Jerry okay?

I hate to speculate about substance abuse, but when you filter Jerry's behavior over the last few years through the lens of addiction, things look significantly different.

In the apology yesterday he was slurring his words more than normal in a mid-morning interview.

He claimed he told his kids who would be a good boy and would do better. You don't say that after a one time thing.

Students have claimed on social media they regularly see Jerry come into stores to buy alcohol.

The midnight phone call to a reporter.

The Falwell family has addiction in its past so Jerry would be predisposed to it.

Addiction in general - both when using a substance and when fighting it off - can often lead to narcissism, control, and erratic behavior which are all traits of Jerry in recent years.

What started as a freedom we have to consume alcohol (which I believe in!) could've very well gripped him in ways he never meant for it to. It doesn't excuse the behavior at all, but as someone who values the humanity of Jerry, if he's dealing with something, I really hope he gets the help he needs.
I have an alcoholic brother. It's not fun. He's Jeckyl and Hyde, depending on if he's drinking or not. I suspect this may be part of the problem.
