As the 4-seed, here's how our schedule looks:

Saturday, February 24 - at VMI
Tuesday, February 27 - vs VMI
Thursday, March 1 - at Winthrop

How the word out of the Liberty Way to we have any legs going into that Winthrop game?

If LU wins at VMI and RU, and CCU loses at home to Winthrop, then LU grabs the three seed.

Even if LU stays with the four seed, we'll open the tournement at home.

Let's see how this thing plays out. If the Flames can roll off three or four road wins to close the season, then they'd have big time momentum going into the tournement regardless of which round they face WU.
If Anna Nicole wasn't a woman, she would have been a man. "If" is a huge word. We still haven't beaten a D1 team with a winning record that I know of, not too promising for the future.

Congratulations to Larry on a great game.

Thank you SJ, I was too lazy to look it up, I stand corrected. You staying out of trouble? Of course you were on the net tonight, you are a camera magnet.

I'm staying out of trouble, yes.

We shot 22.2% from the 3-point line.

Yes, but for the game we shot 52% to their 50% and we out rebounded them, they did however outscore us in the paint, and we were bigger, that hurts. Of course the two point technical didn't help either.

How did we out rebound them? They got every big rebound the entire game.

Don't know, I just remember seeing it on the screen after the game. I do have sometimers though, so I could be wrong. I will check again.

man im still sick over this one. let's not bash D for getting the tech. he needed to get those refs in line but probably a bad time. smitty makes a good defensive play then misses the FT's. the bottom line is we let a guy go the length of the court to win the game. all we had to do was disrupt his momentum. as for some who are already calling the season over, let's not shut it down yet. i think the guys will rally and get it done. and what can you say about LB?? what a performance, it was just a hard fought game, and as dickie v would say hearrtbreak hotel baby! lets get those lancers on thursday!!!

wow...i was completely speechless after this game...I was so excited because all the students were so loud and I was like, "yes...the team finally has the students into it" I know it was late coming, but it was something that could be built on going into the tournament...Yes Smitty missed those 2 free throws down the stretch that could have turned into 2 more....but how in the world do you let them get such an easy layup?? They hung their heads for 2 seconds and jogged down the court...terrible transition defense....

and yes, Brew was not in the last couple of minutes...I was scratching my head at that one...

on a positive... I LOVE BJ at the point...I don't remember who argued with me about BJ playing point, but they told me that he had never played point in a game and since then he has played point some in every single game...

also...does anybody know what the big arguement was about between LU"s assistant and CCU's head coach??? I looked away for a second, looked back and they were yelling at eachother pretty good....Falwell was pointing and laughing during it which was funny...

This was a huge game...wish we could've done a couple more little things to get this one done...LB with 40 points played great....this game reminded me a lot of when we played Arkansas State a few years ok....except they made a nearly impossible fade away 3-point shot from the corner to win that one...but the way the crowd was so loud and then quited so fast reminded me of that game...

long post i know...i just can't believe we lost....offensive boards killed us all game....that I believe was the true key....

So what happened on the RD T? Sounds like it was early in the second half, so it shouldn't be that big a deal on the game. When I read "He needs to watch his mouth" I can only picture the emails from the Old Time Gospel Hour crew on that one.
As for WEF I will address some of the officiating - A bump out front can cause a lot more advantage/disadvantage than you would think at first blush. Conversely, some hard contact in the lane can actually be initiated by the offense, hence no foul. Also, what may LOOK like a foul, can actaully be nothing. Had a play last week where a player made a HUGE block on the fast break, smashed the shooters nose which got all bloody and insult to injury, they lost possession of the ball. (Yes the coach got T'd!)

not exactly.....ccu also has a home game versus unca before they face winthrop. if coastal loses that one as well as against wu, then liberty would grab the 3 seed (provided lu wins both at vmi and at radford as you mentioned above). coastal needs to win at least one of their two remaining big south games to do no worse than tie lu for 3rd place in the league...and ccu would have the tiebreaker by virtue of the head to head matchups. at least that's the way i understand it. if lu drops either of those two games, it's a moot point.

LU has no chance at the three. Coastal would have to lose twice. Coastal isn't losing to Asheville at home.

LU probably needs to win at VMI to get the four.

If VMI loses both of its road games at beats LU, LU still gets the four by virtue of tiebreaker (by beating High Point).

the interesting one may be the 7 and 8 seed. RU and CSU are tied at 2-9. CSU has the tougher road having to play at WU and at HPU (but they should have a shot at asheville at home).....if both teams lose out and finish at 2-12...they'd have one win against each other along with the same home victory versus Coastal to their credit. a coin flip perhaps??

radford's schedule isn't murderous, i could see them possibly pulling one out.

I've had time to calm down and clear my head and this is what I think.

Things You Cannot Blame
Coach Dunton's Technical - That happened at the beginning of the 2nd half. Had it been later on in the game, I can understand. I didn't even think twice about it until I got on here and read it.

Anthony Smith - He was the third leading scorer of the game. He was given the task of guarding Jack Leasure so he wasn't expected to have a huge game offensively. Yes, he missed the free throw at the end, but he was big the rest of the game.

Larry's shot at the end of the game was probably ill-advised but when he drops 40 on 68% shooting, he gets a free pass on one bad shot. Larry Blair rarely ever shoots that high. He was just sick tonight.

The rotation we used tonight was good. It was mainly BJ, LB, Smitty/Brew, Rell, and Alex. I know that's only six players, but no one else contributed anything while they were in the game.

We played a decent game. We battled back from being down double digits. We made one huge mistake, and it bit us in the butt.

On a side note, what's with our students not showing up til halftime everygame? We've got to do something to get people to the games. Intramural Sports should be shut down for the 3 hours of the game (30 mins before, 30 mins after...6:30-9:30). You'd be surprised how many kids didn't come to the game because they had intramural games.

I'm sure every other school in the country shuts down campus to attend a home basketball game. Why stop there? Shut down the library and computer lab too. Why not make it mandatory? Give the students a credit hour for perfect attendance. Wow.

I will mildly disagree with you regarding the T. Yes, it happened early in the half, but in a game like this the ONLY way a coach gets a T is if you are way behind and you want to light a fire, when all else is failing. I think it showed a lack of disipline. I would say the same thing if it was a player or anyone else on the staff, not particulary taking a shot at RD here.

Brew should have been in at the end if the game.

Wins will take care of the crowds, thinking about several years ago. Just look at football, heck, we may have a full house for the spring game. It would not be shocking. Who would think this time last year we were going to tailgate at the spring game?

this is the first game that we lost infront of the students, we won everygame while school was in session at home. they have not seen us lose at all this year.

First, as I said Dunton's T did not lose us the game, and I can understand its a basketball game and we all get fired up for it and its understandable. However its kinda annoying thats all. Also did anyone think we had around 8000000 media timeouts? Idk it just seemed like every time a ball went outta bounds they stopped play for 5 minutes. Anyway the Brew thing my only guess is his D? I do remember once he got blown by but at the same point the coaches prob saw something we didnt. The game was not Smith's fault nor should anyone blame him for it, but man under 3 minutes to play and he misses two freethrows(which is actually four). When he missed that honestly it just looked like we lost the wind in our sails, and our trans D just fell apart in the last couple seconds.

If the standings are updated on BSSports.com, then we need Coastal to lose two games and we need to win out. Tying Coastal would not be good enough b/c they have the tiebreaker. We would need Asheville to beat them in Coastal as well.
