Having no or limited fans will hurt FBS teams financially but not kill them. D3 and D2 schools will suffer significantly. Where I live there is an NAIA school and they have limited the normal 10 game schedule to 8 games and they are allowing fans to come to the games with social distancing taking place. Ofcourse living in Montana also has it's advantages 8)

The coolest thing about Montana is your state anthem - "Montana" by Frank Zappa.

Just my opinion, but it is only a matter of time until that gets cancelled but I'm not known for my optimism.

Yeah. I don't think college football will be happening.

If this becomes the norm, I'm not sure how we even have a season.

It's possible. But if the ASun cancels fall sports, I'm not sure we can play football from a Title IX perspective.

Also - not sure if the other independents would think it's worth the money. Why would NMSU want to spend the money to fly across the country to play us? What do they gain from that? There's no tv money there.

There is keeping the program going. If they dont play and others do they may as well cancel the program.

So if p5s do this were talking about an 8 or 9 game schedule right? Thats manageable. Getting 12 is not without notre dame or fcs games. If everybody follows suit that is.

Lot to find out still.

In all honesty its not a bad home set if we get byu army uconn umass

I have seen nothing the hints of this being a thing but i do wonder if this could be the start of P5 conferences removing themselves from G5 conferences.

But yeah, I don't see how we can even have a season.

The NCAA as the governing body of collegiate sports, needs to "take charge" and not delegate everything to conferences and/or schools. You cannot have FBS schools all going in different directions. Keep the playing field somewhat level. I have said for years, the NCAA has weak leadership. I am starting to believe they have no leadership.

I'm confused, why wouldn't we be able to play? The scholarships would still be honored...

The NCAA covers 1200+ institutions. It is nearly impossible to come up with a blanket ruling across all of the NCAA. Leaving the decision to regional conferences makes sense to me. Much like it makes sense for POTUS to delegate to the states and the governor's to delegate most decisions to county leadership.

If the NCAA were to make sweeping rulings it would without a doubt be stricter than you would like. Also, if you don't trust the NCAA, why do you feel they are even equipped to make such a decision? You're a walking contradiction on this one my man.

It makes sense for the NCAA to let conferences decide on their own. If a region isn't as affected by covid as others, then why shouldn't they be allowed to play if they choose to? If we wanted to go by an all or nothing mindset, then between New York and California we likely won't have any sports this year.

Scholarships would but women wouldn’t have the opportunity to actually play. I don’t know where that line is with Title IX. There are so many elements that have to balance out.

Good point. It is definitely a tricky situation, but I was thinking we'd be fine as long as we honored all the scholarships. Maybe not...

I agree it is a complex issue, but I don't see why the school would be held responsible under Title IX for the conference's decision to cancel the women's sports that would offset the football scholarships..
