I don't know why you put peaceful in quotation marks. Almost all the protests start out peaceful until planted people or the police escalate them.

First, I didn’t put peaceful alone in quotes. I put peaceful AND protest in quotes.
Second, you answered your own question.
Third, because the announcement said so, and I was quoting the announcement.
Fourth, I’m not the one who announced it. Nor will I be attending, so I have zero say in whether it remains peaceful or not. For that matter I have no claim as to whether a protest is what happens or not. It’s a subjective term used by someone else. Hence the quotes.

I’m not saying you’re wrong but this is a sketchy article with a lot of confirmation bias. When you see kids start to transfer out of LU for inexplicable reasons or kids flat out state LU isn’t an option then you’ll have something

And I wouldn't say killing yet. One coach in the article says he puts his opinion aside for the sake of the kids because the coaches at Liberty are great. Another parent says they wouldn't want the kid to come here but would give recruiters the opportunity to convince her otherwise.

I’m truly torn regarding sending my kids back to LU next year. My daughter loved it and thrived last year. The quality and character of most of the kids on campus and most of the employees stands at complete odds to the un-Christ-like behavior being displayed at the top. It’s like there are too different LUs - the one my kids love and are immersed in and the Twitter storm and sound bites that make national news. The spirit on campus is still good because of the pipeline of kids coming there who want to be Christ followers and they positively influence each other. But honestly, the students deserve so much more leadership-wise from LU. My brain tells me that LU will fall apart if the spiritual void at the top is not soon corrected. The spirit of the school can’t keep feeding bottom-up. I just hope change happens before the schools testimony is further tarnished. There is so much potential at LU.

The sad reality is Jerry will likely not get the credit he deserves for bringing Liberty back from financial ashes. I was there when Jerry Sr couldn't pay the staff and went on a 40 day fast. To Jr's credit, he's made some incredible decisions and deals to put Liberty in a fantastic financial situation. All those good things will be overshadowed by the juvenile, mean spirited comments he makes. I'm not sure there's a good way out of this for him. Perfect scenario would be for Trump to appoint him into a position.

For sure. He built a stunningly beautiful campus and is a fiscal genius. If he was stripped of twitter and TV and was quietly working behind the scenes doing his thing as a business/development VP things would be fine.

I'd even suggest that Jr. was the right president to get LU to where it is now. The "others" at LU have been able to keep it Christian to date. However, there is a tipping point. If his reign ends now, years from now folks can likely look back at the "businessman president" favorably. I just don't see it ending well if he stays much longer (for him or LU).

Ideally it would be someone who at least has experience as a pastor and is a well respected president of a smaller Christian school that would be willing to take a bigger job like this. I highly doubt they would appoint a non Baptist but as long as they fit the mold I don't see why we can't have a non Baptist president.

I wouldn't want a pastor necessarily. I would want a Christian educator and leader. We have the foundation of buildings, money, and athletics. What we need is spiritual direction and academic growth.

The president doesn't have direct, hands on influence on the day-to-day spiritual life of the campus (I agree with Jerry there) but they are ultimately responsible for it. If we had someone who represented us as a Christian leader should, they don't need the experience as a pastor because we have people to fill those roles.

My best idea of what should occur. Jerry needs to come down with a relapse of some previous or new medical problem. As a result, he needs to step down immediately. The bored can then feel justified in providing him some financial assistance for his future. He should leave the scene totally, for at least a year, twitter, EVERYTHING. Then MAYBE at some point, he could return to be a part-time consultant with little to no say so. Advisory role only.
We should then look for a person who is more spiritually gifted than educationally, and a great communicator, to be the face of the university. This issue is not about a mask, politics, etc. It is a result of a spiritual void that has existed from the top for many years. Jr. shows no outward signs of being a born-again believer.
Then the bored, should hire a highly professional, educational, expert, to improve the educational experience and reputation of the university, BIGLY.
The sports program is in good hands, if Jr. will get out of the way. If he doesn't we will lose Ian before long. Frankly, I am surprised he is still here.
A pastor? A Baptist? My advice would be absolutely no to a pastor and it doesn't matter about a Baptist. As long as we are on that subject, David Nasser needs to be sent off into the sunset. He is a total disaster. Maybe he can become the next Phil Donahue or a circus clown.

He does have a good CV. The only thing that would immediately disqualify him, would be if he had anything to do with hiring Jeff Barber, to be their new AD.

I'm certainly not privy to any information about the business decisions of the school but should he get the credit? His father's life insurance policy catapulted the school into financial stability. His father invested in pioneering distance education decades before it was acceptable. I've always seen it as he was put in a good position and just had to not screw it up. He's screwing it up. But maybe there were a lot of logistical decisions made along the way that I don't know about.

I partly agree with that and often think Sr isn't given enough credit for the wise decisions he made, especially towards the end of his life.

BUT, Jr was also working behind the scenes assisting in laying the foundation for our financial boom.

Doc's life insurance policy was the catalyst to get us out of debt. What Jr's done since this to build up $2 billion in assets in 13 years is pretty incredible.
