To me the mask isn't the problem. He is calling out the Gov. for doing something extremely stupid. However, in doing so, he looks very unprofessional and petulant. He is an embarrassment to the university. Mostly for the fact that his character/demeanor show little to no evidence of being a Christian. No need to beat that horse any more.
His political endorsements don't really bother me at all. I am a Trump supporter and as long as he keeps his views separate from the university, it is ok. Unfortunately, he doesn't always do that.
I could be wrong, but I believe the church and school are totally separate legal entities. Regardless, the board is full of yes men that will not rock the boat, unless they are forced to. Jr. despises his brother. I don't think Jonathon has any lost love for Jr. either, but I kinda get the idea that he is trying to remain above the fray.
I am not 100% sure the bored :) knows of some of the problems Jr. has. Knowing some of them, I would be surprised if they would put up with it. But who knows.
For the good of the university, he should step down or retire and we should hire someone outside of the family. I love LU, especially the sports program, but we need a university to have a sports program.

Same way the classic Europe monarchies existed - nepotism.

thepostman wrote: May 28th, 2020, 9:16 am I love the 1st amendment and am not a Democrat. I know you're joking but give me a break. To me, this has nothing to do with tjhe govenor of Virginia. It is tone deaf and in extremely poor taste. Whether he likes it or not (I know he hates it) he is the leader of one of the largest Christian universities in the world and should not hang out in the gutter of discourse.

I'm use to it and barely batted an eye when i first saw it because this is the norm with him. It shouldn't be.
He has every Right to Tweet that. I have every Right to think it was a dick move. It’s how the 1st Amendment works. He can say it, I don’t have to agree with it. ‘Merica
I also have a right to say what I want as well. That doesn't mean I should say every single thing I ever think of just because I can.

I'm afraid of things like this being the fall out. For those of us who still love Liberty because of the faculty and students who represent everything Jerry isn't, there is going to be a death from attrition. Who wants to stay and work in this environment? and what type of people are going to be attracted to fill those vacancies left by the professors who have had enough? What kind of students are going to want to attend this school?

I fear that in a few years, the atmosphere in the bubble will change markedly for the worse and I will have almost nothing left to love about my school.

Jr. said he wasn’t meaning to be offensive towards people of color?

It’s a picture of a guy in blackface and one in a KKK hood. What the heck did you think was going to happen?

That’s like saying you didn’t mean to hurt someone when you cut them with a knife.

He knew dang well what he was doing. He just doesn’t give a crap about anyone but himself and the pool boy.

10 News reached out to Thomas Road Baptist Church for comment but received no response. A request for comment to Liberty University was returned with a screenshot of Falwell’s follow up tweet explaining the context of the image and saying that “Democrats are and have always been the real racists in this country.”

That news reporter is a joke. Why would they contact TRBC for an LU statement?

Nothing but hypocrisie on the left, look no further than the me 2 movement. That mask highlites the hypocrisie of Virginia's democratic governor. Demacrat sheep enable their hypocrisie .

Like Trump says, when demacrates tell a lie they stick together

For me, this has nothing to do with left vs right politics. It is much bigger than that. Our political systems and governments will all pass away but what we do to people and how we treat them could have eternal consequences. I know it is impossible for the world and the media to separate politics from anything but someone who leads the world's largest evangelical university should be able to. If not, maybe he should move on to be a full time politician and let someone else run the school.

If you are correct, then you must admit Jerry's lack of leadership qualities. It is hard to develop a well thought out and balanced approach to life when a big silver spoon is in the way.

If he can't see the unintended consequences that Tweet would cause then he has no place being a leader in American society.

Sure. I'm not defending doing him on this or several of the blunders in the last year. All I'm saying is hes not a racist. Very very poor choice and he clearly didn't think it all the way through on how it would be perceived.

Saying hes not a racist and hes made some very poor decisions in the past 12 months especially are 2 totally different things.

Either some here are stupid or just disingenuous. The tweet obviously points to the governors past racial sensitivity. The Lieutenant governor has a major Me Too issue.

You guys crack me up praising Doc all the time and then knocking junior for involvement in politics. Jr's doesn't come close to Doc's

The reason why Jr's is more out there because it's social media and billings of people use these platforms. I'm not supporting the political nonsense that is going on in this nation, but I wish Jr was more involved in improving residential and online academia than he does with politics. Since politics is a clown show, it's hard to take him serious at times. There's and cons with his actions and I don't think it's wrong to point them out. If people have their own personality biases when they point things out is their problem. I for one just want the school to be a prominant Christian school that can be
more beneficial locally, nationally and internationally without going hardcore political.

This has nothing to do with govenor, as I've mentioned before. If I were in Virginia, I wouldn't even think about voting for him.

I am very familiar with Jerry Sr and remember how he was quick to apologize if he got carried away. I remember how many friends he had on the opposite side of aisle and how highly the staff spoke of him. Those are the things I remember and respected most about Sr. I miss him.

Jerry Jr doesn't apologize, in fact he almost always double downs. If you can't remove politics out of this conversation then I'm not sure we are talking about the same thing.

Apples and oranges. Doc was a "pastor" and chancellor. JR is a "christain lay person", lawyer and chancellor. I would be willing to bet my last dollar Doc would be very pleased with both his politics and his leadership.
