I even volunteered to go around and do a 20 minute thing on LU athletic "traditions" and explaining things.
Super, I'd be really curious what you think our "LU athletic 'traditions'" are.

That's why I put that word in quotations. As the programs get better, things are going to pop up that we do at every game.

The L-U chant with the fingers, while some may think it's boring, it's a staple at LU sporting events.

Go drive the bus for the Quiz Bowl team, at least I'm trying to do something to encourage students to get out there.

Has Rocco started any traditions for or offered ideas for:

a. Within the team? (Team pride stuff like the "Who's Nuts?" shirts from the Philly Eagles Team Practices back in the day...que Medic.)

b. The general student body? (I know the fight song thing with the players coming over to the student section, but has he suggested any others?)

And what would be some of the traditions that some want to see established? Now that the program has been jumpstarted or "re-started" so to speak, it seems that this is as good a time as any to get a few really great traditions going (after all it's got to start sometime, and it was kind of a dry spell for those of us who went to the school in the 90's.) This way 20 years hence, the 2027 kid who posts on FlameFans.com who attends the LU will look back and make up mythical Flame Flock falsehoods about how his forbears started the storied traditions of Flames Football.

We should teach the kids the fight song in Freshman Seminar. I was singing it at a basketball game (where the band plays it horrible by the way) and no one even knew that we actually had words.

One of the best things about watching VMI is hearing the cadets in unison sing the fight song and do the chants with it. Our kids just say Go LU.

I looked for the picture that was posted by SJ a long time agon, i dont remember what forum it was or what school it was, but after every win they Toilet Papered the courtyard area of campus, i think we need to do something like that. I know it wouldnt fly with school officials or janitors, but we should find a way to have something like that

I heard the transfers from UVA couldnt handle the workout the first few days here at LU so they had to wear some shirt that said "soft" or something like that

OK Here are some facts. The biggest hit by The Flock of Seaguls was the classic I RAN (with a really simple yet cool video, and yes for those wondering I DID have a hair style like that for awhile) They also had two other Top 100 hits. Anyone remeber what they were?

JDUB, part of the speech could mention the change of our team colors. The early 1970s Flames wore green and yellow uniforms (suposedly because JF was a big Packers fan); we eventually changed to red, white, & blue around the time the "L" in LBC changed to Liberty. And I believe for a few years we even had a Liberty Bell on our football helmets.

And 2 big traditions that have eventually died out:
(1) we used to throw rolls of toilet paper in the multi-purpose building after the first basket was made in a game;
(2) we used to throw marshmellows at football games, maybe after we scored.

What more do you need to know?

I'm not positive, but I'm guessing 1976 was when we we from being "Lynchburg Baptist" to "Liberty Baptist" because of it being the bicentenial year, and, if so, that's probably when the team colors changed to the patriotic red, white, & blue.

I think the Liberty Bell logo was a cool idea, but I bet it had some kind of copyright that kept us from using it long term.

I'm sure the LU library has all the old yearbooks in their archives that any student could access for research. Study

I imagine there were some cracks in the school's legal argument on its use.
