No, I remember Jerry Sr. talking about how much people hate truth, but he felt compelled to speak truth, even when it made him unpopular.
Just played the Jerry Sr. card :)
When it comes to politics and saying what's on your mind .... and rocking the liberal boat Doc makes Jr look like a light weight. Let's be honest. Love them both.

Is the 5,000 students staying in Lynchburg thing accurate? Or did they just have to come back and get their stuff? I disagree with Jerry's approach on this one but it seems the media is taking this story and blowing it way out of proportion. Maybe those who post here who work around or for the school could share some info.

There are articles like this that make it sound awful with the city being caught off guard.

Then there are comments like these:

Obviously the truth is somewhere in the middle but I am curious if anybody else local has more insight.

I just know what I've heard from several people that work there. The biggest concerns I've heard is that the students are given a lot of latitude to make the "wise decisions" instead of the university mandating behaviors and that there are a lot of employees who have jobs that would easily be done remotely, yet they are still required to come in to the office every day.

I don't have any insight into the numbers on any side (staff, students, faculty). I have heard that it's more than LU claims but less than the most exaggerated headlines.

As always, the truth is in the middle.

Either way, there were dozens of better ways to handle this, but Jerry's gotta Jerry.

You can still edit posts. How you do it depends on what you're using to access the forums. Shoot me a pm @SumItUp if you're still having issues.

But yeah, the 5000 number seems way overblown. I don't believe anything Jerry says but hearing from people on campus, this story doesn't line up very well.

Maybe some, but it doesn't look like any of the ridiculous stuff Pelosi was asking for is included. Main changes from the bill which was negotiated before she swept in seem to be a bigger boost to unemployment benefits, an increase in funds for hospitals, and IMHO the biggest concession, and one that I hate, is congressional oversight for the loans to major businesses. The Republican leadership has been saying all along that this bill is not the end of it and if more is needed in certain areas it can be addressed. The fact that this has been delayed for several days is inexcusable.

If this is not passed by the senate today and then by unanimous consent in the house, heads need to roll.

Jonathan Carone wrote: March 25th, 2020, 9:30 am It looks like the Republicans didn't get the crap they were wanting either. From what little I've seen, it looks like this is truly focused on people, not corporations.
There is no change to the amount (500 billion) for loans to major corporations. The change is that congress will have oversight, which is a huge mistake IMHO, but I guess it had to be done.

Given the circumstances, it doesn't look terrible on the surface but only time will tell if provides that band aide that will help sustain things until we are back to normal.

And we need to start the process of getting back to"normal" as soon as possible. I'm getting sick of hearing people talk about killing grandma to save the economy. We can save both. This is being called a war. Using that analogy, treating the entire country as if we were all in the same situation is like carpet bombing in an age when we have drones and cruise missiles. We can get people back to work soon in much of the country and still protect grandma.

SumItUp wrote: March 25th, 2020, 9:52 am Has anyone seen any reference to how small business will be aided? I have seen the $367 billion number, but not with any details about how a small business can access the funds.
My understanding is that those will be zero interest loans through private institutions, and the portion used to pay employees and other necessary expenses like rent will become a grant. Your bank should be able to tell you (soon if not right now).
