One of my former students is a flight attendant with Delta. She said they started with optional unpaid vacations then moved to furloughs for the most junior workers. She's based out of Seattle, so if this thing goes more than 2-3 months, she'll be in trouble.

Some are saying you should plan on setters for the kids through May. That's pretty much the rest of the school year.

American Airlines is grounding 150 wide-bodies through May (and purple that's not obese passengers and crew members  ). United is canceling half their flights.

Well, my wife just got told she's working from home for the next two weeks. In school, we won't be teaching new content, just providing review material to our students and being there for them. Nothing new that will be graded.

First case confirmed in Charlottesville today. It's getting pretty close.
Junior still has time to do the right thing, but I'm not holding my breath. Where are all the School of Medicine, Nursing, Health Promotions, Biology, etc. professors? Why aren't they advising this fool?
At this point, it's not a business decision, it's a public health matter. Stop relaying conspiracy theories that you hear in the grocery store to FoxNews and maybe listen to some people who know what the heck they're talking about.

Look, I completely get why this has become so political, because over the last couple decades, "experts" have become highly politicized. We no longer trust them. Heck, I have a hard time trusting most public "experts". But in this instance, you can see it unfolding right in front of your eyes. Will this whole thing be used as a bludgeon against Trump? Yes, absolutely! It WILL be politicized. But that doesn't excuse the decisions you make here. Be reasonable. This isn't a worldwide conspiracy to get Trump.

Boy, I would just love it if the governor put the clamp down on Liberty. That would just eat Jerry up and it would show him that he is not beyond other people's influence. The fact is, some of the things Trump has said lately might limito the flow of students coming back -particularly discussions about allowing states to handle cross border activity.

Same here. My daughter loves LU so much (and I do too), but I honestly feel like a bit of a fool having her there. If he doesn't budge, I have no idea how she will be able to finish this semester (she has kidney issues and is on a drug that suppresses her immune system).

Bernie should take a look at the chart I linked to. His allegedly favorite countries, Denmark and Norway (we all know he prefers Cuba and Venezuela) are both among the worst in cases per million population. Switzerland, which has mandatory private care and is supposed to be a "model" system, is higher than both, trailing only Italy

I know you won't agree, but I see people on both sides trying to make this some kind of political thing.

I probably see more people on the right making it political because the majority of my network leans to the right.

I haven't seen the majority of people I connect with (the center) making it political.

The left is making it very political as well.

I suspect there will be classes. I also suspect that social distancing will not be difficult, and they won't need to move to bigger classrooms to do it. 8)

I think it depends on how you look at it. Clearly those who support the president tend to trust him a bit more and that this will all blow over sooner rather than later. So they are a bit quicker to snap at those who don't have the same faith. On the flip side, Democrats want the presidency and are unquestionably using this as a way to try to gain ground politically.

If it wasn't an election year then maybe it wouldn't be quite as bad but it's pretty bad.

The good news is the administration is acting more appropriately and there are some pretty smart people on the team so I do have hope but it is far too early to really tell.

I've also been told by someone on here that I don't take a stand on anything, so what do I know? :D

Something I hope JLFJR is considering: If he suspends classes temporarily, almost everyone will come back when the coast is clear and they resume. If he doesn't, a lot of students (and/or their parents) may decide they are better off continuing their education elsewhere.
