I am reminded of when I grew up in the country. There were several "one-horse farmers" in the neighborhood.
If that "one horse" farmer has the "one" fastest horse, with increased potential and strength.....who do you think gets all the attention in the neighborhood?

Except that they HAVE football and I believe were nationally ranked this year

So your hypothetical is horrible

App State would make an ideal partner for scheduling for the time being, and could possibly develop into a regional rivalry. They are among the most respected Group of Five teams, so the road to becoming one ourselves can go through them. We could also have an even home and home series due to the fact that they aren't in a P5 conference.

They still might have a hang up with playing LU. I know a group of their students pitched a fit when they played last time. I recall there being some sort of policy about future football contests

I remember that too. All I could find was this SGA statement but I seem to remember an official policy as well.

App’s next opening isn’t until 2024.

Their scheduling philosophy is pretty straight forward:

One FCS
One regional G5
Two P5

In the years they play two G5, the second is ECU which is a giant rivalry game for them.

I like that philosophy. Maybe another regional FBS instead of FCS that’s pretty solid

Yeah. I can take it or leave it. Those are fine scenarios for an FCS game. Plus you get one to count for Bowl eligibility so why not use it.

Exactly, and that's why I want LU to keep one FCS game on the schedule as well.

That resolution was from 2001, and we have played them since then, so it may not still in effect. However, almost any school still has some not so tolerant students that get mad when we are scheduled. That will always be an issue for LU. Maybe it will come into play, maybe it will not.

That is great for App St - but what in the world does that have to do with LU ? They get to go on to conference play, title game and bowl game regardless of what happens with non con.

Considering I’m in favor of being affiliated with a Conference, and you are all “Let’s stay Indy but tell everyone we are really P5” what do you care? It fits what I’d like to see happen.

I think you, in-part, just provided a great representation for what LU should be aiming for routinely to grow the program. This is what I would want to hear as a potential recruit. Such accomplishments in my opinion, are how you get buy in, exposure, and excitement around your program. And even though it is the Sunbelt....it's still appealing all the same. If we can be competitive and consistent....in a conference, challenging for conference titles, and going to bowl games.....man, what's not to like?

I mentioned it because someone mentioned developing a rivalry with them and playing them. I was showing they only have four spots each year and only one spot for a G5. It illustrates the point that building a rivalry with someone in a conference will be next to impossible.

By all. Means if you want to be part of a G5 Conference - then that is a much better formula than playing 4 P5 games. I would say for LU limit it to 1 P5 and don’t schedule any top 10 G5 until you have 7 years of 10:win seasons.

You also say LU should schedule a neutral site game at Jerry World in the next year or two and it would be close to a sell out. So.....

For those who are new or don't know. Resolution was passed after Sr's comments regarding 9/11.

https://sga.appstate.edu/pagesmith/155
"Never" is a long, long time. Considering how dramatically things have changed (not the least being the death of the man who made the comments) I think you are on shaky ground to use the word. Not saying we will ever be rivals with App State, just that using that resolution, which now borders on ancient history, as a basis for saying "never" is going out on a pretty slender limb. For the record, we actually played them in MBB in 2015.
