Just another thing to add to the list of things we have done right since our move to FBS. Very smart to move now and show HF our commitment by paying him his value.

1. Your points only go to prove mine.
2. Year one of the FBS bowl eligibility, and we are going.
3. Independent is working. Look at our future schedules.
4. You say Freeze and McCaw are lightning in a bottle, others might call that the result of faith and work.

Liberty as a whole is lightning in a bottle, or the result of faith and work. However you want to look at it, the results are what they are.

As for professors, if you are talking about laying off the those in the School of Divinity, the reality is that few youngsters want to study Divinity anymore. This is simply our culture, it’s a sign of the times. No doubt we’ve made additional hires in the school of business, engineering, and computer science. If you want to be a college professor, and want a good chance of finding a job, go with a field that is growing, not one that is shrinking. That’s just being smart.

As conservatives we are all about not having any more government positions than absolutely needed. Shouldn’t we feel the same about higher education? One of the reasons why college is so expensive in general is because other schools chose to keep professors or add more when not needed, thus bloating the payrolls. Meanwhile, Liberty costs 35 grand a year, not 75 like the University of Richmond.

But I digress. We can continue our current success, and it can grow. I’ve been saying for years that we did not need an FCS national championship in order to have success at the FBS level. None of us could’ve predicted Hugh Freeze, but then none of us could’ve predicted the incredible success that Liberty has now either. Doc was an incredible visionary, but even he, if you had told him in 1985 that Liberty would someday have a top three Natatorium in the entire country, would he even have known what a Natatorium was? Would he believe you if you told him that we were going to pay a football coach 3 1/2 million dollars a year? Would he believe you if you told him that we would have an endowment over $2 billion with no end in sight?

The best is yet to come.
Next year is going to tell a lot about where we are headed. probably even the next two years because the schedule gets more difficult. If we make it to bowl games the next 2 years and ADIM and HCHF are still employed by LU I might be sold. until then i'm going to remain cautiously optimistic and not drink the Kool-aide just yet. We are still a long way from being where we want to be. the baptist version of ND constantly in the national conversation. We are taking advantage of what we have been given right now. which is great. But i'm not sold that we won't see some regression as the schedules get harder. If that makes me and the people who think like me a hater or a naysayer, bring it on man. That's what this board is for.

As I said....Memphis was a lateral move. As for Ian...spend 5 minutes with him and you’ll see he’s a builder by nature. He loves building. Look at what he built at Baylor. He wouldn’t want to go to an established P5....he wants to build.

How long until...

1) Freeze takes Oxford off of his Twitter profile as location? (or does he have it there simply because he was born there?)

2) Media starts using photos of Freeze from his time at Liberty?

Found this interesting:

If we’re paying Freeze in the $2-2.5M range, that’s as much or more than 11 P5 schools:

Maryland
Colorado
Arizona State
Rutgers
Kansas State
Syracuse
Wake Forest
Arizona
Oregon State
Indiana
Notre Dame

I knew this would be the case for some P5s but seeing ND there surprised me!

My guess is that it's based more on what they see happening with our recruiting. And sends a message that we have a P5 budget.

The raise and extension makes sense when you consider 7-5 and Bowl game, the better recruiting and need to keep them, our tougher schedules coming, and the complete change in attitude and culture around the team it makes sense to me. Then especially when you consider he was rumored to being considered by FSU, Arkansas, and Missouri it makes more sense, even though these rumors will happen every year he's with us.

Lot of coaches were paid more, but did not win 7 games.
Do you have a list?

Fastest growing football program in America and my guy over here talking about

" Im not sold, and we could see some regression"

Nothing but 4 Nattys in a row to prove we have arrived is the vibe that haters have.

Also spare me the " "I was here when we sucked" and "typical liberty" " speech you have down so well.

@R i there is nothing wrong with enjoying the ride and still being cautiously optimistic. I'm not sure why people seem to have the opinion you can do that without being a "hater"

I'm going to say that it's fine that people will have doubts and express them on the forum. The best part is people who are doing them are not making the major decisions!

I don't know what I did to offend you man but I've obviously hit a nerve. I invite you to message me if you want to work that out. As for the rest of your post:
1. We aren't the fastest growing program in america. We are rising. I'll give you that. I get you are being a fan. Thats great but i'm a realist and I can think of a few that are rising higher and faster (oh and by the way all of them are in conferences but thats another argument for another day)
2. When we can consistently (<--KEY WORD) compete and win against High level programs like ND ACC and SEC then I will believe we have "arrived". Nice hyperbole though.
3. Don't sit there on your self righteous ivory tower of fandom and tell me that we didn't under achieve when you and I were both in school. So kindly cut the crap and enjoy our first bowl game like the rest of us and pray we can keep the progress going. I'm not going to pretend we aren't progressing. But i'm also not going to pretend we are UCF, Cincy Memphis yet when we haven't achieved anything close to that. I'll join in your hype party when we hit the goal of being the Baptist ND and in the national discussion on a weekly basis. Until then #BeatSouthern
