I have heard "sources" from way down South say, Liberty is #1 on Cure Bowl's list.
Your sources are "way down South" of reality. There is no list where Liberty and the Cure Bowl are concerned. It all comes down to tie-ins and availability. The first tie-ins for the Cure Bowl are 1 team from the SBC and 1 from the AAC. If either of those conferences do not have enough bowl eligible teams for all of their tie-ins, we have a secondary tie-in with them which obligates them to take us unless we have a better offer. All the slots are currently filled, but if Memphis or Cincinnatti end up in a NY6 bowl, the Cure Bowl bid is ours IF WE WANT IT. At that point, we will be the ones looking at OUR list, and I think there is a good chance we will have better options.

Cure Bowl would like LU, because of potential for outstanding ticket sales. With that being said, as I look at the bowl projection lists floating around the internet, I see bowl game projections that I don't think they could give away tickets to. Granted there are bowl tie ins, but I think bowls can "trade" tie ins. You are correct in that we could get a better bowl than Cure. This would more than likely result in a better opponent than the Cure could offer. i.e. a Power 5 opponent.

I'm just not sure what you are basing this idea that LU will have "outstanding ticket sales" on.

Same thing he bases everything on.

FWIW, I asked Ian a couple weeks ago about the possibility of us having a Cure Bowl invite AND an invite from another bowl. The way he answered the question made me think we would honor our agreement with the Cure Bowl in a situation like that.

That’s easy. Ticket sales do not equal attendance. LU will purchase every single ticket in their allotment and any more they need to in order to be attractive

Ian is a wise man. This one and ONLY bowl tie in may be why we play and Kent State (mac) sets. Personally I would rather face a G5 opponent THIS year. Liberty and Hugh Freeze facing off against his old team Ark State plays well to a national tv audience.

If we go to Cure Bowl, I think there will be a lot of LU fans in the seats. Every LU fan in America should attend if they are financially able, and can travel to Orlando on December 21. We need to establish a reputation for supporting bowl games. This will help us in the future. I have heard of schools having to "eat" bowl game tickets. I am hoping LU can sell their entire allotment, and ask for more.

In my travels around the southeast to softball games, there are normally more LU fans at the games, than those of other teams playing. (This doesn't include ASUN road games.) Football should bring out a lot of fans, especially in Florida (or anywhere in the south).

Very true, but Arkansas State isn't a "well known" team nationally. LU is probably a more national brand.

Thanks for the info. If that is the case, we can probably make travel plans for Orlando if Memphis wins Saturday.

I wonder if there will be a Bowl game "watch party" like there is for NCAA tournament selection show for other sports ?

I half way agree, but a winable game is desirable also.

There won't be because there's not a set time we could get the call. It could come at 12:15 or 7:30. That wouldn't make for much of a fun event.

Winning that game would be cause to light the cigars

I think there is at least one matchup where we could have the best of both worlds, ie. winnable game against a high profile opponent. When I say winnable, I certainly don't mean we won't be significant underdogs, just that I think we can beat them.

Not ideal, but could be doable for me, because I could book a flight arriving at 11:15 AM (cutting it a bit close for 2:30 kickoff, but probably OK) with return flight at 11:30 that night. One day car rental, no hotel. Probably right about $350 including parking and admission. Would not miss Sunday services with family and back in time for Christmas eve/day.

I thought about that, but I've never done it before and wouldn't feel comfortable the first go-round in these circumstances. Financially, It would save me about $75 in car rental and parking. Have no idea what it would cost.

When does the semester end? If the students have gone home for Christmas break, how many will make it to the game? We will need to get as many FL alumnus to the game as possible. We will really see how strong our national appeal is with this Bowl game. Hopefully, we will do better than the Syracuse game. I am going to do my best to make it, but will probably buy at least a couple tickets if I can't. Good news is I have had several friends that have rarely made it to a game in LYnchburg say they were going to make it to this one.

I want to play a team that doesn't have a great rushing attack. Arkansas State and Miami seem like the two possible teams with the worst rushing attacks. Tulane and Georgia State would be very tough with our defense and lack of linebackers.
