Once football season is over, one of the biggest disappointments will be not hearing Coach Freeze speak as often. I find his speeches, interviews, and press conferences to be very inspiring and enjoyable. I really wish LU would post the entire Monday pressers without the abrupt endings. But I like how he doesn't hold back on the players mistakes and efforts, but also owns up to his and his staff's mistakes. I don't know if he was like that prior to being here, but it's definitely refreshing.

Totally agree. I admit I was one of the skeptics when we were looking to hire him, but I was all in after meeting him and hearing him speak a few times.

He and Ian definitely have us moving in the right direction. I hope we can keep them around a while.

While I will miss hearing from him as well, Ritchie is also the man. We are SO BLESSED to have these men (and many others) as coaches and spokesmen for the university.

Yes! The beauty of being a Liberty fan right now is that in the next couple of months, as HF fades into the background a bit (except for recruiting) we have RMK to enter the spotlight. Quite the tag team.

A loss to Rutgers was a little embarrassing the way our defense got whipped and Rutgers hadn't been able to score all year. A loss to UMass would be more embarrassing, ruin any chance at a bowl game, and would tarnish the year a bit.

I care about it because it is an FBS bottom 10 that we have to beat and I want to see AGG move in to 1st in reception yards in the nation and Buckshot move closer to top 10. But I hope very soon all our fans are holding their nose at this type of game and consider it beneath us because we are P5 equivalent.

I get where you are coming from, but it is a big deal in our quest to become bowl eligible, which makes it can't miss for me.

I guess that would be a nice goal, but you do realize that we just lost to a team with one win and this is our first year in FBS? We have a legit FBS coach and 2 years (being generous) of recruiting FBS talent. If we become a P5 equivalent in less than 10 years, I would say, it would be a minor miracle. I am happy with the progress we have made thus far under HF. But we still have a looooooong way to go. I am just hoping that we can keep Ian as AD and HF as coach for several more years. I can see us possibly losing both of them before long.

McCaw, because of his baggage from Baylor, would seem to be grateful just to have a job that he does have at LU. That would seem to keep him here for the long term, of which we are the beneficiaries. I personally believe Hugh Freeze has grown to love LU through his entire infection situation, and his family is now grounded here. This means we should at least have him here for 5-7 years hopefully.

I realize perfectly the difference between G5 and P5 level talent and where we are currently and have about 500 posts on why it is vital to establish P5 equivalent independent for 2026 or as soon as we can schedule it - retaining HF level coaches and AD are the 2 biggest reasons along with recruiting. If the vision was beating App State and Boise State that Jf wanted; then that would be a different program build philosophy.

McCaw would have no problem getting another job. He is solid and we are lucky to have him. I believe HF does have a good connection to LU, but .................................. stuff happens.

Call me a sucker and a glutton for punishment, but does any one else feel like we have passed UMASS in talent, program power, coaching, etc. I have 0 doubt that we win this game. Maybe its the kool-aid, maybe its to much candy, or maybe it is just trust in HCHF's coaching ability.

It is going to take me a while before I think any game against an FBS opponent is a guarantee win. I was even nervous about Maine earlier this year so I can't say I have zero doubts we will win.
#587163
I don’t think it’s a guaranteed win, but I have no interest in it.

If we win, it’s against the worst team in FBS.

If we lose, I wasted three hours watching a terrible football game.

It has bowl game implications so it’s an important game, but I have no desire to put any more effort than checking twitter throughout the game.

Interesting position change HF revealed yesterday with Henry Chibueze moving from OL to NG. TG made a similar move a few years ago with Greg Story, another huge OL who wasn't getting into the rotation, and he was able to contribute on D. I vaguely recall that when we were recruiting Henry, one of the local sports writers in DC suggested he would be better at NG. Apparently HF plans on using him some this week, because he is moving Elijah James outside to fill in for Lewis, who is out with a concussion.
