Defense
Significant improvement over last year. Not only are they not a liability, they look to be a strength.

AGG
He looked like a pro. Was one of the best players on the field.

Students
They were there early and stayed until the game was out of reach.

The Bad

Offense
We couldn't run. Receivers couldn't get separation. Just wasn't good all around.

Calvert
He took too long to read plays, locked in on receivers, and just didn't look like he belonged.

The Crowd
Having a crowd less of less than 22,000 for a ranked ACC opponent is super disappointing. Makes you wonder what our actual ceiling is attendance wise.

The good:
Defense, especially considerong how long the had to be on the field

Special teams. Surprised that Syracuses depth didn't seem that superior.

Final could have been 24-10.

The bad:
Calvert. Though to mitigate this, he was facing likely the strongest D we will see this year. He needs to make better, quicker decisions and get accurate to 65%. Lots of zingers, not much touch.

Need to be better organized in Flames Club pregame meal. Need people manning stations such as drinks and deserts so as not to run out of cups, drinks, etc.

Lack of offense. But kudos to SU on their D.

Good:

1. Defensive Front - Frankly I didn't expect them to dominate the line of scrimmage and they did for most fo the night.
2. Special Teams - Probert should have connected and our coverage unit was blessed bya few flags but otherwise they were solid across the board
3. Coaching - Whether headsetting it from a hospital bed or the defensive schemes as whole, I came away as impressed as anyone could be after getting shut out.

Bad:

1. Pass Blocking - With all due respect, I get why Buck was panicking in the pocket. The Otange flat out abused us in passing situations.
2. Buck's Ball Protection - He seemed rattled moreso than any game I can recall and it apppeared to make him sloppy with not only pass decisions but even handoffs.
3. Running Game - Other than a couple of plays early on, the ground game showed no spark. The fact that Mack was benched so quickly is frustrating becuase while his fumble was exceptionally costly it would have been nice to see what he could do with more than two carries.

Defense. Far improved, fast, and able to tackle.

Punt/Kick returns. Outside of running one or two that should have been FC, I like the return game.

Offensive line. More wholes than a cheese grater.

Buckshot. Calm down. Not every pass has to be a bullet. Put some touch on it or throw it away. Start reading the field and stop staring down receivers.

Turnovers. Can’t win if you keep giving the ball away.

Yeah. Mack’s been sitting for a year and was rusted but he should have been given more carries. kid was crying in the bleachers with his dad. Kid really wants to play. Apparently there is a problem with Coach Johnson. You can’t keep a player who led FCS on bench with -6 yards rushing for team. I don’t understand the mentality of that coach but he’s gotta play this kid

Defense was all around improvement
Traffic flow for ingress and egress was much smoother than last year
Alves was VERY MUCH improved from last year (and he got plenty of practice tonight)

Bad:
Calvert - I don't know that he will fit the new offensive strategy. I agree with whoever mentioned "he did not belong"
He appears to be a single dimension QB who cannot perform outside of the pocket.
Concessions was a train wreck. A SU fan was talking with me and said facilities were great...but the long long long lines and lack of locations really needs some attention.

Attendance - I never thought i would see so many empty seats for this game. Our parking lot has had more cars and fans in previous, less hyped games.

Good:
1. Our D looked great.
2. AGG is still a beast. His dragging 3 Orangemen down the sideline was awesome.
3. Bennett looked smooth and comfortable in his only series. Probably should've brought him in earlier, as the O looked good with him.
Bonus Good: We'll get our revenge on October 18th & 19th when our hockey team hosts SU at LIC.
Bad:
1. O line. 8 sacks on Buckshot and our running game was non-existent. Granted SU has the best DL we'll face this year, and 1 of the best in the country IMO.
2. Skill players were sloppy early on and killed any momentum and confidence we needed that may have changed the game. Buckshot was obviously rattled,\.
3. The neon green mall security girl who stood directly in front of my wife and I obstructing our view for a while. But at least they didn't have them iine up behind the SU bench this year and distract us from the game.
Bunus Bad: I almost never get LU concessions. They've never been good. Heck, they don't even butter the popcorn. It's probably Sodexo. There's got to be some fancy food service guy/chick out there that Jr. can give a second chance to that can make things better.

Team:

Good

1: Overall D improvement. The D was on the field way too much and did not give up 700 yards.
2: Our defensive front was solid.
3: AGG is getting a shot at the pros.

Bad

1: Buckshot and his decision making tree or lack thereof.
2: Special teams. I watched the spring practice and in warm ups with no pressure they wee missing 35 yard kicks. Not surprised we missed in the game. I think this trend will continue. Another dropped kick by the receiver ... no change from last year.
3: I was surprised thinking our O line was a strength but a talented D schooled them this game. They will do better against lesser talented teams.

The Good
1. Improved parking attendants--they actually let me through to my tailgating area when I showed them my tailgating parking pass (they stopped me TWICE last year and wouldn't let me through, even with my printed parking pass); this allowed both Purple Haize and ATrain to briefly attend my tailgate.
2. AGG was a man among boys out there dragging 3 Syracuse defenders for additional yardage. That video needs to go viral.
3. Improved Nachos--I didn't get them because I was full from tailgating, but they looked amazing and had so many different topics, including pulled chicken, and you could tell that the cheese was piping hot!


The Bad
1. Eight QB sacks.
2. Mack fumbling inside the 5 yard line.
3. Buckshot's inaccuracy with many of his passes.

The Good

1. Clemson and Notre Dame were the only teams to hold Syracuse under 24 points ALL LAST SEASON
2. True Freshman Tre'Shaun Clark had 3 total tackles including 2 solo as an UNRANKED RECRUIT
3. Zero touchdowns in the air. Tommy Devito did not throw for a single touchdown.

The Bad

1. Offensive line was a liability in run and pass blocking.
2. We didn't get to see more live time for JB. I don't want him starting yet, but the snaps were valuable when the game was already out of reach.
3. Zero touchdowns in the air. Buckshot Calvert did not throw for a single touchdown.

Thoughts.  I know I've said this many times before on this board, but I went to a branch capus of the Univ. of Pittsburgh for 2 years vefore transferring to LU in the late 90s to finiah my degree.  The last Pitt football game I went to was about 5 years ago, Pitt played Florida State at home on Labor day in a nationally televised game on ESPN2...the game was played at Heinze field it Pittsburgh.  Regardless what the "official" attendance was, the Stadium wasn't even close to being full.  And I'd say there were maybe about 3500 students in the student section.  Our student section ia ao much better!!

So for all this complaining about attendance...our student section is amazing...and considering this is our first true year of FBS...our numbers are actually pretty good, even taking the adult side into account.

Like others have mentioned, I do think the baptist side being all reserved hurts us, because there are people that would like to walk up and get tickets last minute.  This reserving the Baptised side silvwr does hurt us in walk ups, I believe.

On the other hand, think I understand what the admin. is trying to do.  Both the Syracuse price and the reserved seating price were designed to push people into getting season tickets.  And I've had friends that used to come with me that purchased their first season tickets this year...becuase the price difference between just the Syracuse game ticket and a season ticket wasn't that big of a gap.

So I think what the administration is trying to do is push more people into season tickets.  I do think this hurts the walk up numbers.  I think if you made the silver seats in the upper deck of the baptist side General Admission, that would help fill them up better in the short run.  But in the long run, slowly convincing people to just bite the bullet and get season tickets might be better for the school, even if it hurts some of the numbers temporarily.  I think that's Ian's view...he's playing the long game here.

The other thing I would suggest...there seemed to be a bunch of people and students standing on the edge of the berm for the game.  At least for the silver seat sections...aren't the silver seats on the upper deck of the student side GA?  At some point.. Like after 10 minutes is gone in the 1st quarter...they should open those up as student overflow.  I know students were supposed to get the wrist band...but it's kindof crazy to have people standing around the berm when there were plenty of ga seats open.

Just my thoughts.

Offense - obviously it was a struggle other than a few plays here and there

Fans - being the number three all time attendance is great...but still disappointing. It was warm, but beautiful.

Tacos - my wife got some pork and some chicken tacos. They were terrible.

Good:

Defense - after the way the defense played last year in all but the Troy game, that didn’t even look like the same team

Students - they came, they were loud, they were there the whole game

Not as bad as it looked - Syracuse still had the starters in there through most of the 4th quarter. NONE of them had counted on that whatsoever. We could have easily been tied at halftime and then it is a totally different game

Bonus: I’m pretty sure my wife and I are best friends with Thomas Sargeant’s mom now.

One can see the skill in JB and it was easy to see he is raw. I agree not yet but it may be coming sooner than BS wants.

Hind sight is always 20/20, but maybe sometime Friday or Saturday when they realized they still had 2,500 seats left they should've opened it up for more students. Don't know if that was actually possible, considering someone said we normally sell 2K walkup tickets. But just a thought, and there's probably no way to account for the season ticketholders who won't show up. But I agree with you in principle.

I thought with UVa and Tech both playing away games (I think) on Saturday might have helped LU's attendance, too.

On the tickets. If they shifted 2k tickets into season tickets. Then the paid attendance for every game is going to be higher.
