FlamesHighontheTide wrote: August 25th, 2019, 9:37 am By the way, I just read that one of Syracuse's starting DT will be out for this game and maybe their starting center and one of their starting wide receivers too.
Not true, Sam Heckel (our starting center) was held out of practice for a week but will be good to go for Saturday.. All our receivers are healthy except for 4 star Ed Hendrix who redshirted last year. Bear Williams is out for Saturday’s game but that’s more of a problem from a depth perspective as Josh Black and KJ Ruff are at the same level from a talent perspective..
8) Your post pretty much confirms 2/3 of what FlamesHighontheTide said. Starting DT out. Starting C maybe (but will play). The only issue seems to be whether the WR who is out would have been a starter if he were healthy.
Not really. Sam Heckel was never a maybe, he returned to practice last week, it was the week before that he was held out.. and Ed Hendrix wouldn’t have been a starter even if he were healthy. Toogie Jackson, Taj Harris, Sean Riley, Nykeim Johnson are set in stone out wide...

That's a lot of meat on the O-line. Should be interesting to see our strategy against the run.
Their guards are huge, but the other 3 starters are all well under 300. If we start who I think we will, we will actually be a bit bigger overall. The new beef we have brought to bolster the interior DL positions will certainly get a stern test right off the bat.

Coach Babers: "Hugh Freeze is the real deal. We all know that and this a huge challenge. This guy knows exactly what he wants to do and knows how to do it. This is a big deal, its a big challenge: Hugh Freeze vs our defense and we don't have a clue what they are going do."

One thing I noticed on the Syracuse fan forum (just looked at the prediction thread) was the majority believe they are now an elite team. Have they forgotten that they had back to back 4-8 teams in Dino's first two years. Elite status brings with it consistency as well. If they achieve another 10+ win season then I will change my perception of their program.

Their Defensive Ends against our OT's will be the matchup to watch all game long as I think that will dictate the success of our offense. Something else to watch for is how much improvement has transpired on our defense especially in our tackling. If we can seriously limit the missed tackles and get pressure on a young and unproven qb then we could be in for a big surprise.

Seems to be that way for any team that has had a sucky run over the past decade. One winning season and they think they are NY6 bound the next year.

Who do you think beats us that takes us out of the top 25?
Liberty.

C'mon you knew that answer was coming.

Also NC State
I’m going to say FSU

Haha should’ve seen that one coming.. NC State is gonna be a tough one, Thursday night game, and we have to go down there this season.. But outside of Clemson I don’t see a game where anybody can say “yeah they’ll probably lose that one” this is by far the most anticipated season up here in Syracuse in a very very long time, hopefully we live up to it.. First things first tho, looking forward to the game Saturday, have you guys heard anything on it that transfer from AU? will be eligible?

SoD BAS wrote: August 26th, 2019, 9:32 pm Syracuse will lose 4 (possibly 5) of these games:

@ Maryland
vs. Clemson
@ N.C. State
vs. Pitt
@ Florida State
vs. Boston College

Losing 4 of those could still keep them Top 25 depending on how the ACC shapes out, but I doubt it.
Eh I disagree, Maryland will be a tough out as they’re on the road but they have a new coach who was god awful in his previous stint as a HC, obv looked like a solid OC at bama (who wouldn’t?)

Clemson is Clemson, they have us circled on their calendar this year and it’ll be a war on September 14th, going against a team like that I’ll accept a competive loss.

NC State loses a lot in Ryan Finley and Harmon and I think our pass rush and our loaded secondary will be too much for their young QB (Matt McKay) to handle

Pitt has had our number the last few seasons but last time they came to the dome we came away with the win, unfortunately our mid season adjustments against the run last year came after the pitt game, as that would have certainly gave us the win last season. I expect to win this game.

FSU obviously is extremely talented, but just got flat out outclassed last year. They couldn’t handle our defensive line. This year Briles is their OC so FSU will be running an offense very similar to ours, which I think will only help us. It is in Tallahassee so it’ll be a tough game no matter what..

Like I said I disagree that we’ll lose 4 but we’ll see down the line, this is why we play the games

Anyway I’ll probably be in here a few times until Saturday, so good luck this season (except Saturday  ) y’all have a great coach and hopefully your team and him have success during his time down there.

Just to stir the pot and have some fun:

Dino Babers is 1-4 when he coaches against the team's first FBS team on the schedule. The only win came last year at WMU 55-42. Oh, and it was 41-35 late with a 1:56 left in the third quarter.

We are FBS and I firmly believe our offensive fire-power and coaching are better than WMU last year. Also as it has been noted, NO ERIC DUNGEY. Against WMU last year he threw for 184 and 2 TD's and ran for a TD and 200 yards!!! Devito is not even close to the runner that Dungey was.

5 more days fellas till I take a victory drink of orange juice 8)
