Smart move. With the new JUCO D-linemen coming in and Mitchell back from injury, he was going to be absolutely buried on the depth chart.

I was wondering out loud why he made this choice.
He wants to play and JUCO is a good way to stay tight.

When you have already used your redshirt year as Cater has, JUCO or FCS are the 2 options to transfer and not have to give up a year of eligibility. The JUCO route provides more options. If he gets an FBS offer after 1 year he can go there, and if THAT doesn't work out, he can still transfer to an FCS program.
