Money - you buy the rights to the stadium and game for 10 years for opening week - and retain the right to resale it to a bigger program or another event if something changes for LU. This is an off night from their regular scheduled program games and you have to approach them now while they are building and marketing the Stadim for a deal. If we don’t do it - they will be proactively reaching out for other teams to do it similar to what Dallas does now - the reason Dallas / BYU game works for LU in Oct / Nov is Conference Play and LU / BYU would be only teams to do it -Opening or Zero week will be competitive - so LU would have to step in now and secure it while they are building it...

1. Liberty Stadium ? You want LU to buy the naming rights to a new LA Stadium? I guess you could work in a clause for LU to play a game a year or so at Liberty Dtafium, but that Claude wouldn’t guarantee an opponent. Liberty would also not be in a position to make the event schedule at said Stadium
1a. If money is an incentive for the Stadium there are a lot more match ups that put a lot more butts in seats than an LU USC/UCLA match up.
2. It’s been stated ad nauseum that the Dallas Military game is a no go. From no less than Military, your supposed target audience, members themselves.
3. The Syracuse game has at least a heartbeat for several reasons:
A. Game already on the schedule
B. Top 25 team going on the road for a season opener against an upstart
C. Said Upstart hired possibly the hottest coaching prospect of the year
D. Home game for Upstart school means the place will be well attended or sold out, which looks good on the camera.

Your scenarios are all over the place.

Like the time my cousin and I stayed up late with beverages watching Smokey and the Bandit and thought it was a good idea to become truck drivers so we could move Coors across state lines.

I went to bed and when I woke up, my cousin put a $3000 deposit on truck driving school. He failed the course. It was a terrible idea.

As for recruiting footprint in the future, I don't think Texas or California will be main focus, thus there is no need to schedule a game there, other than maybe one every now and then. Now granted we may get a couple recruits from those areas, from time to time.
Our recruiting footprint should be in Virginia, Carolinas, Georgia, Florida, Alabama and other southern states. I cannot see LU "planting the flag" out west. We need to play schools from states mentioned.

Not upset at all - but if ESPN would cover LU Syracuse early in HF first year - granted Syracuse will be rated higher than USC and UCLA next year - Program wise they aren’t close - and everything has to do with Progam Perception in College Football ( unfortunately ) vs current year success. My entire premises of out of the box is relegated on Program Perception and LU scheduling/branding. If you look back to when UCF was Indy - they went and played the best - then they started beating the best and then couldn’t schedule - went to a Conference then had another dip - went 11-1 then 0-12 ( memory but close ) then went on their 2 year run. ( again I have stated many time UCF is not our model - they are largest college in nation, a major stadium and recruiting hot bed - but still they went Indy before joining a G5 conference and they should have held out for a P5 - wont be long - but I digress ) My 10 year lock in to best stadiums ( LA Opener - schedule USC and UCLA alternate years - lock in 10 years same as in Dallas with BYU ) we build a tradition of being the team always in LA Opener - say we win 3 of 10 - still MUCH BIGGER than a home opener against a crap team and we are etched in CFB memory for life. BYU hasn’t won anything since 1984 - but that 1 title give them auto ascension in to top 25 this year after losing to CAL earlier when they beat WISCONSIN ranked # 4 week 3 - who ended up being a bad team but everyone recognizes BYU as a brand. If Coastal had beaten Wisconsin week 3 with already a loss would they have jumped in top 25 ? I doubt it. My entire drive is for LU to establish itself as a P5 equivalent and best way to do that is establishing tradition - TV tradition - Recruiting Strongholds - CA, TX ( if one of you comes on here and pushes ATLANTA as a 10 year home lock - I wont argue much) but ALL we have is outside the box $ driven thinking that gets us to where we want to be - Slow road G5 mentatility won:t cut it.
Frankly; USC and UCLA blow -- the entire 12 is lacking ---- I would not take away a home game for that. Tell the fans at home we don't care.
LU will not be a national draw now ..... maybe after 5 years. If after 5 then we want our home game revenue. On field performance will sell better than anything else. ESPN expose by on field success and the coach and his media style will draw talent a a lesser cost.
What we need is a team good enough to be involved in one of the first two week OOC games that actually draw national attention.
Apologies to my Kool Aid but Syracuse - Liberty is not a big national draw. We go Thurasday --- we better win!

1a. If money is an incentive for the Stadium there are a lot more match ups that put a lot more butts in seats than an LU USC/UCLA match up. USC AND UCLA WOULD SELL IT OUT ( LU WOULD MAYBE HAVE 1K FANS THERE AND YES YOU WOULD HAVE TO CONVINCE STADIUM OWNERS IT WOULD BE A SELL OUT - ( MAYBE NOT SINCE I JUST WATCHED PANAMA VS US UNDER 18 FOOTBALL GAME ON TV LAST WEEEK AT DALLAS AT&T STADIUM THAT HAD 500 PEOPLE IN THE STANDS - NOT SURE HOW THEY RECOUPED THE ELECTRIC BILL ON THAT ONE ).
2. It’s been stated ad nauseum that the Dallas Military game is a no go. From no less than Military, your supposed target audience, members themselves. I PROMISED NOT TO COMMENT ANYMORE ON THAT ONE

D. Home game for Upstart school means the place will be well attended or sold out, which looks good on the camera. AND IF THEY MOVE IT TO THURSDAY NIGHT ON SAME DATE AS I WANT LA OPENER THEIR WILL BE NATIONAL EYEBALLS WATCHING FROM CASUAL FANS ( I WATCH EVERY CRAP FOOTBALL GAME ZERO WEEK ALONG WITH EVERYONE I KNOW SIMPLY BECAUSE CFB IS BACK - EVEN IF ESPN KEEPS SYRACUSE ON SATURDAY BUT ELECTS TO PUT IT ON ESPN 2 REGIONALLY OR NATIONALLY - EYEBALLS WONT BE CLOSE TO THURSDAY NIGHT BECAUSE EVERYONE IS WATCHING THEIR TEAM OR BIGGER GAMES.

Your scenarios are all over the place.

BYU Future Schedules - 6 P5 games a year plus top tier G5. Their AD figured out mediocre schedules equals mediocre staffs, recruits and sub tier Bowl Games - he is stepping it up. I don’t think it works out for them - simply based on their limited recruiting capability. LU has 10 times the recruiting pool to select from and I hope we emulate their new scheduling philosophy sooner rather than later because I know we can compete at that level if we choose to go all in.

Tyndal23 - I actually am with you in spirit on this last post. But this gets me curious, which school was the highest profile opponent we had during your days and what was it like from your perspective? I totally get we are in a different era and situation.

All scheduling up through the 2023 & 2024 seasons should eb the focus. Beyond that realignment could render the rest of the schedule tentative at best.

One of the advantages of independence is the capacity to get as many as P5 paydays and home dates as possible. But when we were making the transition, just booking the minimum number of FBS home dates was our primary focus. Moving forwardthe pressure will be off to a certain degree ... especially if we have another indy or two to work alongside.

I completely agree - Ian did a phenomonal job with the hand he was dealt and he is a top 5 AD that we are fortunate to have. I do think pushing to drop 1 of our FCS teams ( in a way that still is a win for the FCS team ) for this coming year would be smart if we can replace with a game that counts toward Bowl eligibility. My concern is 2024/25 type schedule where we had more time - Eastern Michigan types during September ( which is should be 4 weeks of P5 games ). This is more a Jerry decision vs Ian - he would have to state this is type of schedule we want - $ isn’t an issue - jump all in.
