Coach Freeze wants the best players. He even said his depth chart was written in sand. :fbplayer

BJ, with all due respect that is the worst statement I have ever heard.
All leaders want to to improve in any environment.
If I have an employee that is okay-- or a player -- but along comes a true talent --- yeah , I'll let them go --- no.
That is a pure recipe for failure --- mediocrity --- and so on.
Better talent brings improvement with competition and collaboration to improve.
If I heard a potential manager -- or coach -- heck future employee make a comment like this ----- not on my team.

Post-game Army-Houston, Monken said, "you don't have to have the best players to win, you have to have the best team to win."

You make a great point ... coaching matters. How many 3 stars do the Cadets have?
That being said, I have seen coaching changes occur where the new sheriff has different expectations and may work players harder. No guarantee --- you must compete for recognition. I had a coach once that if a player on the opposite side of the field would quit you were out of first team practice and the next man up rolled in. There was no quitting in the game on O or D cause not matter how talented --- you were out. No BS, all rezults based. This has led to some players becoming frustrated and quitting. I hope this does not happen here but I would not be surprised if we lose one or two.

My point was that Freeze basically got Bennett to come a semester early, I'm guessing to give him a) a chance to learn the new system in spring ball and b) because he believes he has a chance to either win the job outright or be someone who he can play right away come the fall, even if in a limited capacity before having an opportunity to have the keys for himself in 2020. Wimbush is a very talented player i will agree, but i just wouldn't want to "muddy the waters" in that if we get Wimbush to transfer here for one year and he passes the guy coach Freeze practically begged to enroll early, we could lose both of them after 2019 and then where does that put us with BC graduating?

BJ, Bennett is not going to transfer if Hugh brings in Wimbush. He didn't beg him to come. Bennett already had his mind set on coming in the spring. Just because he's a 3 star doesn't mean he's guaranteed playing time. Robinson can come in and beat out Bennett for the job. Plus who's to say Hugh doesn't land a stud QB in nexts years class?

It doesn't matter if Bennett can get the starting job out of the gate or not. Freeze wants to be comfortable it Buckshot gets snapped like a twig on the first drive against the Cuse. The NCAA doesn't prevent freshmen from getting their hands on a playbook if they arrive early, do they? Bennett is going to have the same 8 months of playbook study that Buckshot will have rather than just showing up in June and getting the playbook then.

Every year is the year we could bring in the next big star. Opportunity lost and the possibility of lost contribution is not a risk I would take.

What do Bama, Clemson, and ND all have in common other than being in the playoffs? They all started younger qbs after the season started because they believed it gave them the best chance to win. My bet is coach will start whoever can run his offense the best, be it the senior, the freshman, or the transfer.

It's been a dead period through tomorrow I believe. I think we will have our last defensive hire this week, then learn about the staff as a whole through an official announcement Friday. Then everyone will address their positions groups and recruits.

As a head coach you owe nothing to returning starters other than a chance to compete for a starting position all over again. I look forward to the QB competition that will begin this Spring. My gut tells me that Bennett may emerge as the starter, if not immediately, then at some point during the season

Hes visiting western carolina this weekend. William green is visiting jacksonville state this weekend. Brian merritt does not appear to be considering us. Mentioned uab and south alabama as visits in a recruiting article.

Not sure if were waiting to bring in a bunch on the 18th or if were bringing in a few this weekend.

He’s visiting Western Carolina this weekend. Remember Harris Army is aiming for him as well. He enjoyed visiting West Point, so this will be a toughie.
