Makes sure there is enough but not too much quality in their given field of observation

A lot of tape study and advanced scouting. They essentially do everything on the back end so the coaches can quickly and effectively put in a game plan on game week.

I found this 2016 article that gives a good explanation of what a QC does:

KD was one of our best recruiters, according to message board.
That is correct, and we will be losing a goot recruiter, but keep in mind the new WR coach was also recruiting coordinator for Ole Miss. I think he will do fine here.
From what I have gathered Maurice is a major recruiter and certainly a big step up.

I was told this morning that you are always "getting coached up".

If I ever get a college football job, it will be a QC position.

Anybody think Dan Werner -- although fired by Freeze --- is a candidate for our OC/QB coach?

I am having a hard time seeing or finding a link to DC

Oracle ballcoach15, Slyfox, ASOR are there any inklings where we may be headed?

Bowl season over soon!

Kendal Briles just stepped down as OC for Houston after the terrible lost against Army. Not saying we should bring him in, but I recall someone mentioning him being a head coach for LU.

Edit: Apparently he’s going to FSU for the OC job.

Also, at half time of that game Malcom Kelly told his team he was going to SFA --- bailed at half.

The vols want him as well ... would be something if we take two from the SEC .

Here’s some info on our new DC.

“At West Georgia, Symons helped the Wolves to a 40-13 record in four seasons, including back-to-back 12-win seasons, two NCAA Division II Super Region 2 titles and a Gulf South Conference crown. Symons guided six defenders to all-conference honors, including a pair of defensive All-Americans: lineman Dylan Donahue and cornerback Marcus Sayles. Donahue, who was named the GSC Defensive Player of the Year, was drafted by the New York Jets in 2017. Former Wolves Tyrell Adams (Oakland Raiders) and Sayles (Buffalo Bills) are three players off Symons’ defense currently in the NFL.

Known for dominant defenses under Symons, West Georgia ranked in the top-25 nationally in scoring defense and total defense from 2014-17. Symons’ stellar 2015 defense finished No. 3 in total defense, allowing just 248.9 yards per game, and No. 6 in scoring defense with just 16.3 points allowed per game.”

1 year as lb coach at memphis and 4 years prior as DC at west georgia. What is the connection to West Georgia?

Gotta say so far harris is the only slam dunk hire though i like Burns as well. The other hires may be good but they are unproven.

They all seem to be high energy younger guys.

One positive is that we are going to have some real good recruiting connections in places like georgia and mississippi.

So, it's only a great hire if they came from the SEC? 8)

As far as what a DC does, there is little tangible difference between D2 and P5. The players just aren't as talented, Symons coordinated highly successful defenses for winning teams at W Georgia. BTW, although he coached LBs his year at Memphis, as DC at W Georgia, his position responsibility was safeties.

I agree on Harris. Theoretically, that should not happen, ¨that¨ being an SEC position coach who was also recruiting coordinator coming to be a position coach at a G5 level independant. That was obviously about him wanting to work with HF again.

IMHO Retaining Mike Brown was also a slam dunk.

I really like the overall direction.
Young and energetic is not a bad thing, especially with the right leadership. I think there is just enough of a mix of experence to temper things with Harris, Gregg and Wimbo.
